Its been over a year since we popped up on Facebook, but on Friday November 4th we got the opportunity to head along to the Yorb Manawatū Business Awards.

The event was a fantastic occasion and a great opportunity to celebrate businesses in the Manawatu. With so many entries it was great to see the buoyancy and positivity of our region. Huge appreciation to the Manawatū Business Chamber for putting the evening together.

We were fortunate enough to be Highly Commended in our Construction, Manufacturing and Trades Category. As well as winning the Employer of Choice Award.

We are so extremely proud and appreciative of our team of builders and apprentices here at LBS. The last 12 months has certainly challenged our industry (as well as many others) and without fail our team has mucked in, supported each other and continued to work together.

⛳️ Mo Classic 2021 ⛳️

Huge thanks to Atkins & Associates Limited for co-hosting the Mo Classic 2021 with us.

With our current Covid affected world, we weren’t able to host our Men’s Health Breakfast this year; but a golf tournament with all proceeds going to Movember seemed the next best option.

Palmerston North Golf Club helped provide us with a great venue and then the weather took care of the rest.

Movember’s national relationship with Speight's, along with other local golf clubs donating complimentary rounds of golf, meant some great prizes for all golfers too.

With over 80 players out on course it was a great day of fun, banter and an opportunity for old friends to catch up and new friendships to form.

The team of Mike Atkins, Matt Dalley and James Holden took out the inaugural Mo Classic Trophy.

Huge thanks to everyone who attended and supported the event. A total of $9000 to be donated to Movember and the fantastic work they do.

Great day out and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year. 👌

Happy New Year. We hope everyone had a great break.

We need some help please - we are looking to add to our team; but we do things a little differently......

As a result of Covid-19’s lockdown I (Chris) got an opportunity to spend some extended time at home with our young children. Turns out they are awesome kids (I knew they were cool, but this was really quality time)👌. Anyway, after pitching the idea to our awesome team and then trialling it for 8 weeks, in late July we implemented a 4-day work week. We work Mon - Thurs with minimum 10hr days; yes we have worked the occasional Friday when rained out earlier in the week, but this is very much a safety net day to ensure our team get enough hours.

We have a fairly full schedule planned for 2021 with some exciting projects through our sister company Maple Fern Homes constructing high performing homes, as well as a range of renovation, extension and hard landscaping projects. We have worked hard to build a loyal client base over 6 years and with minimal marketing, the majority of our work is referred and repeat business for great people.

Our team of hard working builders and apprentices are a great bunch! With a collective understanding that we all muck in together and work hard, we all get to enjoy a long weekend (every week). All of our live building sites are overseen by our project manager Luke and he too is a good bu**er.

We know this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea; but someone may be looking for some work/life balance. Someone may have a young family. Or someone may be building their own home and/or just likes the idea of being part of a cool team and getting a three-day weekend each week.

We are not necessarily needing to hire qualified tradespeople (whilst that is preferred), individuals with extensive trade experience are also welcomed to chat to us.

We value our team environment so make no apologies about our strict no dick head policy.

✔️ Movember Men’s Health Breakfast 2020. ✔️

Long Building Solutions Limited was proud to host our annual Movember Men’s Health Breakfast again. With fantastic support from the local business community we were able to host 75 guests for a sold out morning of information, stories and lots of laughter.

Men’s health is something we are very passionate about and the positive feedback from the morning was again encouraging that the breakfast is of great value.

Lastly, we are fortunate in the Manawatu to have such great people that get behind initiatives like this. We thank you all for supporting this breakfast.

Keep an eye out for one another; remembering (particularly with the year we’ve all had) that it’s ok not to be ok. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!

Hi everyone,

We trust that you all have been making the most of the uncontrollable situation we all found ourselves in for the last four weeks.

With some exciting news for a range of industries we would like to take a moment and pass on our thoughts to all those in the hospitality, tourism and any other industry that is unable to operate until we reach Level 2. We wish you all the best and look forward to supporting those industries as best we can when they become operational again. 👍

As for us, our team is excited about returning to work and getting back into the projects that we had to park four weeks ago. Things will be slightly different for a while but as the construction industry has changed and evolved over the last 5-10 years we are getting more used to adapting and overcoming.

Thanks to the team at Studio Seventyfour for their prompt service on our new safety signage; and a huge wrap to our superstar Admin lady Jess for the work she has done over the last three days ensuring that all of our Health and Safety procedures are in line with the Alert Level 3 guidelines for Covid-19. All this information has been sent onto our clients, sub trades and suppliers, so we’re pretty proud of her.

We love working and living in the Manawatu and we know what a resilient area this is. We can’t wait to return to work and help contribute to making sure we all come out of this as best we can.

🔨 LBS Backyard Transformation. 🔨

We had the pleasure of working with a lovely Palmerston North couple who had had some architecturally designed plans drawn for their outdoor living area. ☀️

A whopping 60m2 of Kwila deck complete with cantilevered pergola meant that this was going to be quite the project. Our team approached it with the same attention detail as they always do and have created something that we are very proud of. 👌

Special credit to Paul one of our builders and Hunter one of our apprentices who were the main crew for the majority of this build; also a mention to Avodah Photo + Cinema for the awesome work on the time lapse video and for changing the camera film each week in the rain haha. 🎥 🌧

This was another little highlight of our year along with all the other exciting projects we were able to complete. 👍

A bit of a whirlwind last week or so to finish out the year.

- small 10m2 cabin and surrounding deck build for a long term client of ours.
- light commercial fit out for a logistics client of ours.
- house re-clad by removing weatherside and putting new linear weatherboards on.
- little fence to help keep the wee ones in.
- new deck completed (photo in the wet 🌧, apologies).

We also have a wee video of a big project we have just spent the last 7 weeks on that we will be releasing tomorrow so keep an out for the ‘LBS Backyard Transformation 👌.

High Performing Renovation

This was another highlight of our year. Being the first Homestar Rated Renovation in the Manawatu was very cool.

Again some great clients that were superb to work with and had a clear vision as to what they were wanting to achieve. Absolute pleasure.

Here’s a little snip of arguably the most important day - clean up/finishing day, from back November.

Well with Christmas just around the corner we thought we’d share a few projects from the year that have been highlights for us and our team; not to say that every job isn’t a highlight, but some have stood out a little more so.

Lifestyle Block Poleshed:
This 77m2 pole shed was a great wee project, not just because the clients were so great to deal with and put on nibbles for us at the end of the build; but because when we first met with them they had some pretty grand ideas as to what they were wanting. After some consultation as to what they required from their shed facilities we narrowed down some key components that needed to be included and found a way of delivering everything necessary to their operation; all ready to handover for the internal yards to be completed.

Council submission; excavation; driveway; concrete works; construction and roofing all handled by LBS.

Really cool project this was and thanks again to our awesome clients; surely enough room for the reindeer in there this Christmas as well 🦌 😉🎄.

It is with well wishes that we farewell Micky Dean from the LBS Team today. 😔

Micky has been with us for 18 months and has been a great addition to our team. With a passion for building and a love of people Micky has been an integral member and we are very appreciative of the contribution he has made. 🙏

From the entire team we’d like to wish Micky, Tash, Aria and Cadence all the very best for their move south. We have no doubt that your new business venture will be nothing but successful. ✈️ ✔️

We look forward to following your guys journey and remember to keep in touch; just don’t call during smoko, otherwise no one will answer 😂.
