I’m Nicola, the latest addition the PEMC nursing team. My family and I recently moved to the area, and we’ve enjoyed settling into this wonderful community. I’m passionate about working with people to achieve meaningful, positive health outcomes. This is what inspired me to transition into primary care after over 10 years of working in the hospital system. I’m looking forward to using that background to support the health and well-being of individuals and families in our new home. Hi Papakura East patients. There has been a few recent cases of Whooping Cough (Pertusis) in the local community.
If you suspect your child has been exposed, please call reception as we will need to isolate your child from our waiting room.
Whooping cough, is a highly contagious respiratory disease. It causes severe bouts of coughing, which may be accompanied by vomiting and a whooping sound.
A person with whooping cough is likely to be infectious from the week before they start coughing to three weeks after the cough begins.
Please ensure your pepi/tamariki are up to date in their vaccines. If you are unsure, please call us.

Sam is a UK trained Physician Associate and joined the Papakura East Med team in March 2024. He has worked as a Physician Associate for 5 years and completed his studies at the University of Surrey.

Sam has a special interest in muscular-skeletal medicine and has completed a medical acupuncture and electro acupuncture course allowing him to treat myofascial pain, chronic pain and migraine/tension headaches.

Sam’s hobbies include, running, fitness, reading and Rugby.

A Whooping Cough epidemic has been declared across New Zealand. It's important to be aware of the risks, particularly for babies, children, and older adults.

Around 50% of pēpi who catch whooping cough before the age of 12 months need hospitalisation and 1 or 2 in 100 of those hospitalised pēpi die from the infection. More information on this can be found at Te Whatu Ora: https://buff.ly/4fKiBec

The best protection against Whooping Cough is immunisation, though immunity can reduce over time, meaning regular top-ups may be necessary.

If you're pregnant or planning to spend time with babies (0-5 months) or older adults over the holiday period, now is a good time to check if you're up to date with your vaccinations.
