⚓ Strengthening What’s Beneath the Surface

At Bay Underwater Services NZ Limited, we specialise in marine pile repair and strengthening — helping extend the life of wharves, jetties, and other marine structures.

This throwback project saw our team wrap existing piles beneath a wharf, restoring their strength and protecting the structure from further deterioration. It’s an effective, efficient way to reinforce existing assets without the high cost of full replacement.

Teamwork in Action: Hydro Dam Project ⚙️💪

Following on from yesterday’s post, our Bay Underwater Services NZ dive team is continuing work at the hydro dam — this time highlighting the great collaboration on-site.

Projects like this are all about teamwork. We’re proud to be working alongside McLeod Cranes, ABD Engineering, and other skilled contractors to get the job done safely and efficiently.

With so many moving parts — cranes, heavy plant, engineering crews, and our dive operations — clear communication and solid planning are essential. Health and safety remain front and centre, ensuring every task is carried out safely and in sync.

It’s always rewarding to see multiple teams and skillsets come together to deliver successful outcomes in such a complex environment.

From the field: Hydro Dam Project 💦

Our Bay Underwater Services NZ team is currently on-site at a hydro dam — a challenging and rewarding environment that demands precision, teamwork, and top-level safety planning.

This project requires a larger dive team than usual, supported by a full range of vehicles, plant, and specialist equipment — including a decompression chamber on-site as a precaution for deeper diving work.

Health and safety is always our top priority. From pre-dive planning to surface support and emergency readiness, every aspect of our operation is designed to protect our divers and ensure the job is done safely and efficiently.

It’s great to see the entire team working seamlessly together in a complex, high-risk environment — showcasing the depth of experience and professionalism Bay Underwater Services is known for.

A look back to 2013, when our Bay Underwater Services NZ Limited team first designed, fabricated, and installed floating warning signs on a local lake.

From the initial design and fabrication through to installation and inspection, our team managed the entire process — ensuring the signs were robust, clearly visible, and safely anchored for long-term performance.

This project was a great example of how we combine underwater expertise with practical engineering solutions to enhance safety and functionality in our waterways.

More than a decade later, it’s rewarding to look back on projects that continue to make a difference.

🌊 Tough conditions, tougher team! 💪

Our Bay Underwater Services crew have been working outside NZ waters carrying out a full hull clean on a vessel absolutely covered in huge barnacles 🦪. These stubborn growths can seriously impact vessel performance and fuel efficiency — but removing them was no small job!

With sea conditions pushing close to our safe diving limits and constant pressure from the client to “get finished,” our team put in long days and long nights out on the moana to get the job done safely and efficiently.

A huge shoutout to our hardworking commercial divers — your professionalism, endurance, and commitment to health & safety never waver, even in the toughest conditions. 👏
