A cancer diagnosis is a major life event that can negatively impact mental health, and it is completely understandable for an individual and their loved ones to experience complex emotions during this time.

There are a variety of factors that will impact how an individual and their whānau responds psychologically and our counselling team work hard to create a safe space for an individual to feel and share whatever they need to at this difficult time.

A big congratulations to Sarah Wood, one of our amazing physiotherapists, who has just completed her Oncology Scar Specialist course with Restore Scar Therapy!

Sarah is now fully qualified to provide specialist support for people living with scars, another incredible way she’s making a difference in the lives of those we care for. The therapy involves specialised, gentle techniques to improve scar mobility, reduce pain or sensitivity, and support healing.

For the first time, an international trial has proved that exercise is a lifeline for those recovering from colorectal cancers.

The randomised controlled trial, verified in the New England Journal of Medicine, shows beyond doubt that exercise is essential to reduce cancer recurrence and improve survival for people recovering from colon cancer. Following the study, exercise coaches are being touted as the new standard of care for survivors.

Encompass Health is built on a holistic approach to health and can support you on your wellness journey. St George's Cancer Care Centre and the Cancer Society Southern offer three funded exercise sessions for their patients with its specialist physiotherapist. Our physio will guide you into a safe exercise programme and increase your flexibility, getting you back to a normal life more qu**ky.

The study is a breakthrough. It provides an exciting, accessible evidence-based wellness pathway that people of all fitness levels will benefit from.

Encompass Health also provides funded nutrition and counselling sessions.
