ANNOUNCEMENT – NEW CEO

Following the impending retirement of our long-serving CEO, Wendy Huston who leaves after 15 years of leading the Trust I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Trust Board to acknowledge Wendy’s significant contribution to our organisation over the last 15 years, her dedication, passion and leadership has made a significant difference to the lives of many who call our village home.
I am delighted to announce the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer for the Kāpiti Retirement Trust.
After an extensive recruitment process conducted by one of Wellington’s leading executive search agencies, which resulted in a strong response from a wide field of applicants, the Trust Board has appointed Craig Tamblyn as our new CEO.
Craig brings over 30 years of experience in the healthcare sector, including clinical, operational, and executive leadership roles. Most notably, he served as CEO of Hospice Waikato for 12 years, leading one of New Zealand’s largest and most respected palliative care providers.
What stood out to the Trust Board during the interview process was Craig’s unwavering commitment to a people-centred culture; one that strongly aligns with our core values of Kindness, Respect, Teamwork and Excellence.
Originally trained as a nurse at what was then Kimberley Hospital, Levin, Craig has lived and worked across Wellington, Horowhenua, and Manawatū, and is looking forward to returning to the region. Currently based in Hamilton, Craig will relocate to Kāpiti to take up the role commencing 11 August.
Craig holds a Diploma in Nursing, a Bachelor of Business Studies, an MBA from Massey University, and several postgraduate qualifications. His deep sector knowledge, leadership experience, and values-driven approach make him exceptionally well-suited to guide KRT into its next chapter.
We warmly welcome Craig to the Trust and to the Kāpiti community.

Chair, Kāpiti Retirement Trust Board

COVID – 19 Level 4 - LOCKDOWN
This is a new experience for all of us as we move into this world of lockdown. Life in both our Sevenoaks-Midlands Gardens Village and the Sevenoaks Lodge, our aged care hospital, has changed as we follow the advice and instructions coming from central Government.

Our overriding objective in all we do is to maximise protection to our residents whom we know are in the most vulnerable group in terms of exposure to this insidious new virus.

As such the following restrictions are now in place
• The main office phone 04 2970116 is open usual business hours seven days a week
• A member of the senior management team is on site seven days a week.

Access to the Lodge is limited to staff only; except where end-of-life care is happening. In all such cases we will work with family to ensure access by the family to your family member occurs in an appropriate way.

What we are doing in terms of keeping family connections happening.
• A weekly update newsletter is being circulated.
• The use of technology – ranging from phone calls, Facetime, Skype, Zoom, WhatsApp, and taking photos, continues to be developed on an individual resident basis.
• Staff are spending one-on-one time with residents daily.
• Family members are welcome to contact us if you have any concerns. Do know, if we have any concerns we will be in contact with you.

In our Sevenoaks-Midlands Gardens Village
Residents are responding so very responsibly to the guidelines given.
• A weekly management update is being circulated to all.
• In addition to security cameras which monitor entrances to all 3 village sites, all our road entrances have been reduced to one lane and traffic monitored We have deployed grounds’ and maintenance staff to do this as they know residents well and also, by monitoring the gates over this time, know others such as community carers who are coming and going.
• Unlike some retirement villages, we are still allowing extended family and friends, couriers and online supermarkets to deliver essential items to residents. However, to provide the best protection to residents, we have requested that there be no face-face-contact, that items be left in a pre-determined place (eg by the letterbox or on the front doorstep) and that delivery into and out of the Village should take no longer than 15 minutes.
• Deliveries are being accepted via the main office at Sevenoaks for residents living in the apartments.
• Following government guidelines, residents should not need to leave the village. They are however encouraged to enjoy the walkways through the village while maintaining their social distancing from others.
• Residents are not leaving the village to go into the ‘bubbles’ of others outside the village and then return to the village.

KAPITI RETIREMENT TRUST: 1 VILLAGE / 3 SITES - SEVENOAKS, MURIWAI COURT AND MIDLANDS GARDENS

Kapiti Retirement Trust is a not-for-profit Trust formed 60 years ago. As well as offering a range of aged care services, it operates the Sevenoaks–Midlands Gardens Retirement Village which consists of a variety of well-designed houses and apartments set within spacious landscaped grounds. Aged care services on offer are hospital care, dementia, respite (short term and day), convalescent care and palliative care from the care facilities on the Sevenoaks site.

Set in beautiful grounds including garden allotments, and a private lake with walkways, the Sevenoaks Village has a range of facilities for residents including a heated swimming pool, well-appointed recreation centre and library. Staff are on site 24 hours a day and night security patrols ensure residents feel safe.

Also located on the Sevenoaks site is The Lodge which offers aged residential care at hospital level, including respite care and a secure dementia unit.

Muriwai Court
Located just moments from the Sevenoaks Village, are another small number of duplex villas that make up Muriwai Court. Built on an elevated site for views and sunshine, these two bedroom units offer exceptional value for money. Muriwai residents can take advantage of all the facilities at the Sevenoaks’ complex.

Midlands Gardens Retirement Village
Midlands Gardens is the most recent development undertaken by Kapiti Retirement Trust and consists of 94 brick and tile standalone villas. It is located off Milne Drive, accessed from Kapiti Road and is surrounded by an upmarket suburban housing estate.

These modern villas are all two-bedrooms plus with conservatories. They are spacious and sunny, with internal access garages. The accommodation is set in beautiful grounds with excellent parameter fencing, and regular security patrols at night. From the village there is private, secure access through to the shopping precinct at Kapiti Landing.

Each villa has a call button connecting to The Lodge at Sevenoaks and all are built to an executive standard of housing.

Communal facilities include a modern, purpose-built recreation centre, library and outdoor bowling green. Midlands’ residents use the heated indoor swimming pool, the hairdressing salon and other facilities at Sevenoaks which is located just a five minute drive away.
