If you’re looking for a healthy plant based protein powder that is delicious and easy on your digestion and for your skin then I highly recommend this product. It is so important to have a serving of protein with every meal to support your metabolism, skin, muscle repair, hormonal balance, energy, and a healthy mood. Did you know that having a serving of protein for breakfast helps to rev up your metabolism for the day by keeping your blood sugar levels stable.

Here is a protein smoothie recipe full of health boosting antioxidants and nutrients to kickstart your day.

2 scoops of Nailed It Nutrition protein powder
2 tablespoons of frozen berries
2 handfuls of spinach or kale
1 cup of unsweetened plant based milk (oat, almond or coconut milk)
1/3 avocado or 1-2 tablespoons chia seeds

Option to add organic oats if needing an additional energy boost.

Blend & enjoy!

Last weekend, I was so honoured to have the opportunity to speak to a lovely group of women at Balancing Act latest urban retreat. We spoke in depth about gut health, inflammation and women's hormones - especially what to expect during perimenopause and menopause and how diet, reducing stress, and living a healthier lifestyle can make this transition so much easier!

The urban retreat was held at the stunning Om Yoga Studio in Stonefields, Auckland. Anne from CoreBalance joined us also and guided everyone through a beautiful pilates session. What a fabulous afternoon!

A big thank you to the amazing Karina at Balancing Act for connecting us all and providing the opportunity to speak. It was such a lot of fun and so wonderful to connect with such a beautiful group of like-minded ladies.

Do you experience debilitating gut pain?

There can be many causes but a common cause that I often see in the clinic is a candida overgrowth which can cause painful gut inflammation, food sensitivities, skin issues, joint and muscle pain, brain fog, headaches, anxiety, low mood, chronic fatigue and more. 😢

The good news is that it is easily treatable!

Hi!! 👋 just thought I’d introduce myself properly for those that haven’t met me yet…

I’m Kat (short for Katrina 😄) and I’m based in St Heliers, Auckland in “clean green” New Zealand. I have three kids (boy, girl, boy), and a very energetic border collie who likes to take us for about 3 walks a day. More if he could!

I'm really passionate about using natural medicine to help people get better….truly better, not just temporarily putting a plaster on the symptoms, but to get to the real cause of why those awful, debilitating symptoms are happening in the first place. 🥲 Naturopaths are health detectives and we love nothing more than solving your health problems 🔎.

It is so rewarding seeing patients become well, feel amazing, and regain their old spark and zest for life again. I love taking the extra time to hold my patients hands through their treatment plans, to make sure they are on track and feel really supported. ❤️

My wish is to make natural medicine more accessible to everyone and that’s why I offer cheaper online consultations as well as in-clinic (face to face consultations). I also offer my local community home visits too. That way, I hope to reach everyone that needs help. 🥰

These are just some of the things that I can help with…

🌿 Fatigue
🌿 Mood & Anxiety
🌿 Skin
🌿 Hormonal problems
🌿 Gut issues
🌿 Sleep
🌿 Complex cases... and much much more.

That's a little bit about me, wishing you a happy day everyone!! ❤️❤️

Quite often, when your body gives signals that it’s not well, or out of balance, we ignore it, we put up with it, and try to continue on with our daily lives. I like to call these body signals ‘red flags.’ 🚩

Red flags 🚩 can be ongoing body pain, severe anxiety, chronic fatigue, frequent migraines, stomach pain, menstrual issues, skin problems. and so much more. Quite often, it’s not until we’re in a really bad state of health that we finally seek help. Sometimes it’s too late.

So why do we do this to ourselves? 🤷‍♀️ Well, the theory is that the first step is always the hardest to accomplish because you have zero momentum. You have to pick up out of nowhere and begin, and that’s really hard. Often, you may not even know where to begin so you avoid attending to your health issues altogether. You put up with feeling cranky, anxious, exhausted, or in pain. 😢 You’re not feeling good, so you’re not enjoying life. But wouldn’t it be great to feel balanced and full of vitality again. Why wait until you’ve fallen off the edge of the cliff? 🚑

It’s so much easier to get your health back on track when you make the first step as soon as your body signals to you that it needs help. 😊

Take the first step now, and your body will really thank you...❤️

Holistic Acne Treatments.

The majority of us have experienced acne – it’s right there for the world to see, and instantly affects our self-confidence, mental health, and wellbeing. 😞

There are several factors that cause acne making it a complex condition to treat:

1. Hormonal imbalances – certain medical conditions, and life stages such as adolescence and perimenopause can create hormonal imbalances. This can cause excess oestrogen or androgen hormones which get converted by an enzyme alpha-5 reductase into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT causes the body to produce sebum for acne bacteria to feed on. The more DHT, the more sebum, the more bacteria, the more acne. You get the idea!

2. Genetic susceptibility – some people have gene SNPs that reduce their ability to eliminate toxins and used hormones from the body. This can cause a build-up of excess oestrogen or androgens which can get converted to DHT causing acne.

3. Diet – both sugar and dairy are strongly linked with acne 🍭🧁🥛. Sugar causes the body to produce the hormone insulin to shunt glucose into cells so we can produce energy. However, consuming too many sugary foods, drinks, or refined foods can cause excess insulin to be produced. Insulin then upregulates the activity of alpha-5-reductase causing increased DHT causing acne. Dairy contains inflammatory mediators that can make acne worse.

4. Stress – when you are stressed, your body produces cortisol. Cortisol causes your body to release glucose and produce insulin (so you have energy to run away from the woolly mammoth or whatever stressor is making you feel stressed 😳). However, if you are stressed for prolonged periods of time, excess cortisol is produced, and can cause insulin to be converted into DHT causing acne.

There are other factors such as poor gut health, nutrient deficiencies, sleep problems, and environmental factors that can contribute to acne too.

It is important to take an integrated approach and treat all the contributing factors for acne to go away. This can differ for every person. Therefore, a customised treatment plan, tailored especially for your unique situation, can help you enjoy clear skin again 🥰. This may include targeted acne supplements or a herbal tonic, topical treatments, dietary, and lifestyle recommendations.
