The Southern Cross Health Trust is investing $1 million to grow its Nursing Scholarship Programme - supporting more student nurses by easing the financial pressure of study and clinical placements.

Receiving the scholarship this year has been a powerful motivator for Tayla Cameron, a second-year AUT nursing student, confirming to her that she’s on the right path toward achieving her dream of becoming a nurse.

In 2026, more than 50 scholarships will be available to nursing students at six nursing schools across the motu. Specific terms and conditions apply to each nursing school. Some applications are still open.

Our story

Our vision to create a healthier society underpins everything we do.

Established in 1961 and now looking after the health insurance needs of more than 850,000 members, we are a not-for-profit organisation which means any premium income not used to fund healthcare services is used for the benefit of members - either expanding the benefits available in our policies, improving services, strengthening reserves or running the Society itself.

With Southern Cross health insurance, members get better access to quality healthcare - helping them get back on their feet faster. We pay over 3 million claims annually, offering a range of health insurance plans for all needs – from day-to-day cover through to comprehensive insurance - and we review our plans regularly to make sure the benefits are kept relevant and up to date.
