Important announcment: The much contested therapeutic products bill has passed and is going to make significant changes to the way dietary supplements in NZ are sold and used.
It will increase the cost of doing business and reduce the amount of products that will be available on the market. Over 95% of the 16,500+ submissions made on the bill were opposed to it but the government has chosen to ignore it and press forward anyway.
A petition has been launched by Healthpost and is gaining traction with already almost 15,000 signatures. They are calling for the following:
1. Independent regulator:
Establish an independent regulator and develop legislation specifically for natural health products, separate to the regulation of medicines.
2. Recognise proven safety:
Automatically approve natural health products and ingredients currently available in New Zealand with a proven history of safe use.
3. Recognise international standards:
Automatically approve natural health products and ingredients with a proven history of safe use in other countries with equivalent or higher standards than New Zealand.
4. Consumer interests:
Ensure consumer interests remain at the heart of legislation to support continued choice and affordable access to a wide range of safe and effective natural health products.
If you also oppose this new bill, then please sign and share this petition with your family and friends.
Petitions are addressed to the House of Representatives and ask that the House do something about a policy or law, or put right a local or private concern.
