Recent showers created surface pooling and rutting between the rows, making machine movement tricky and highlighting the impact of stagnant water on root and soil health.

To improve access and prepare for possible drainage interventions, inter-row trees have been removed. Despite the wet conditions, the flowers are looking promising, and as part of orchard management strategy, will soon be applying Pollinator™️ on open flowers to ensure that flowering is completed successfully.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗪𝗲𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗬𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝘀

In April 2024, we conducted a soil classification for a grower in Pennsylvania, USA and discovered extensive wetness and anaerobic conditions holding back yields. After careful analysis, we recommended and designed a tile drainage system.
The grower trusted the plan and made the investment at the end of 2024.
Fast forward to 2025 – one of Pennsylvania’s wettest years in a long time. Heavy rains just before and after planting would normally have caused serious stand issues. But thanks to the drainage installation, areas that used to flood drained perfectly, and the grower is now expecting his best yield yet from that block.
And here’s the kicker, despite little rainfall in the last two months, water is still running out of the tiles, proof of how much subsoil moisture there really is.

High yields and quality citrus production are the result of a clear strategy implemented together with the grower.

𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁

When starch levels in the roots of these trees came back 3x higher than normal, our team knew something unusual was happening. After investigating, we discovered soil compaction about 20cm deep.

Irrigation was running, but instead of soaking into the profile, water was causing surface runoff and leaving the soil bone dry underneath.

Here’s what’s happening:
🌱 In-row ripping leaves loose soil that allows good water infiltration in winter.
🌦️ Winter rains encourage root flush in early spring.
☀️ But when the rains stop and we rely only on irrigation, the compacted soil in the irrigation line limits water pe*******on.

The result? Stressed plants, limited water uptake, and starch build-up.
