September is Cervical Screening Awareness Month - A time to remind aged 25-69 wāhine and people with a cervix about the importance of staying up to date with their screening.

In 2023, HPV screening every five years became the new, better method for cervical screening in Aoteroa New Zealand. HPV vaginal swab looks for presence of HPV which causes cell changes that may lead to cervical cancer. Those aged 70-74 should have an HPV test to cease screening safely.

Cervical screening is FUNDED for:
〰️ those who have never had a test
〰️ those who are >5y overdue
〰️ those who need follow-up or surveillance
〰️ Māori, Pasifika and Community Services Card holders
