Helminth Therapy Is a Self-Treating Therapy. It is now very clear that the presence of helminths in the human biome is essential for optimal health, however industrialised societies became largely devoid of these organisms during the 20th century. While the loss of intestinal worms has undoubtedly relieved these populations of the health issues associated with pathogenic helminths, it has also led to inflammation-associated deficiencies in immune function that have contributed to pandemic levels of allergy, inflammation and autoimmune disease, as well as metabolic and neuropsychiatric disorders. After hundreds of millions of years of symbiosis between our ancestors and helminths humans began to lose these organisms in the mid-19th century, but their absence wasn’t recognised as a problem until the late 20th century, and a convenient remedy only became available in the early 21st century
During the early part of the 21st century, four safe mutualistic helminth species were domesticated and offered commercially so that it's now possible to enjoy the benefits of hosting a therapeutic colony of these important probiotic macro-organisms without the risk of disease
Helminths calm our immune system by secreting proteins, which help regulate our immune system and fight inflammation. NA can help alleviate the symptoms of Auto Immune Diseases, Neuropsychiatric, Metabolic Conditions, Allergies and Inflammatory Conditions. Helminth Therapy is a type of immunotherapy used by controlled small therapeutic doses of symbiont helminths. We specialise in the Human Hookworm Necator Americanus known as NA. We are the only approved supplier across NZ and Australia for this species. NA works well across the board for Crohn’s Disease, IBS, Ulcerative colitis, Coeliac, Eczema, Psoriasis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Allergies, Chronic Fatigue and General Inflammation. We here at Helminth Therapy are passionate about helping self-treaters start their helminth journey, by providing multiple sites and links for information and can answer any questions they may have. A James Cook University clinical trial found hookworm infection with Necator Americanus was safe in patients at risk of type 2 diabetes.
Other studies have looked at the safety and efficacy of using Necator Americanus to treat coeliac disease and ulcerative colitis with positive results.

Results from a two-year clinical trial are encouraging enough for most participants infected with live parasites to choose to keep them after the study.

"Treatment of moderate to severe IBD involves the use of immune modulators and/or biologics, which have several toxicities and side effects, such as predisposition to infections, cancer, and demyelinating diseases in addition to others. Helminths or helminth products are attractive therapeutic avenues given their safety profile... Further research on helminths is expected to be rewarding in physiological and biochemical characterization of not only helminthic immune modulation to identify novel, potent, and safe approaches to treat IBD but also to result in discovery of novel and common immune regulatory pathways useful in the management of other immune pathologies."

Helminths are multicellular invertebrates that colonize the gut of many vertebrate animals including humans. This colonization can result in pathology, which requires treatment. It can also lead to a commensal and possibly even a symbiotic relationship where the helminth and the host benefit from ea...
