Do you wear your traumas like armour? Would you rather be like a river as it meets the sea: journey filled, about to float in an ocean so big that your traumas can be felt instead like a gentle tide? I guide yoga for first-responders, cancer survivors, the chronically stressed and the hearts that haven't quite mended. Yet. Anyone want to join me for Dosa Day (if you've never had a dosa, it's the most delicious Indian kai) to fundraise for Kurinchi Kumaran Temple in Newlands? This Saturday lunchtime-ish. You were never incomplete.

The expectation was built on a misperception and that changes everything.

This week we traced the full territory of expectation - where it is born, what it costs in relationships, how it chains from preference to frustration to demand, and how it operates even in our relationship with our own performance and outcomes.

What emerges from that examination is a teaching that Gurudev Shri Amritji places at the absolute center of I AM Yoga: the belief underneath every expectation is not true.

He teaches it plainly: "You are already whole. Everything that you think you are missing is your imagination."

This is not spiritual optimism. It is a precise description of what witnessing reveals.

When you sit in genuine awareness, - not the analytical mind reviewing itself, but the witnessing consciousness that observes the content of the mind without becoming it - what you find is not lack.

What you find is presence. Unbroken, unconditional, already here.

Every expectation you have ever carried was an attempt to supplement that presence with something the mind decided it was missing. And because presence was never actually missing, the supplementation was never going to work.

The expectation was chasing a problem that did not exist.

Gurudev offers the direct consequence of seeing this clearly: "If you begin to give without expectations, you will begin to feel that whatever comes to you comes as an expression of grace and not a return for your expectations."

When expectation releases, grace becomes visible - not because the circumstances changed, but because the lens through which they are perceived has vcleared.

It has always been in the quality of attention you bring to the present step.

One layer moving south. Another layer morning north. Something still. Constant opposing change. What remains constant, that we can rely on, no matter the weather? It is absolutely a thing to be freaked out by weather. Our nervous system hears the havoc winds and pounding rain. It waits, in the stress response, ready to save you. Wild weather also brings us an opportunity to switch what our mind is telling our body, to experience something else. Calmer, unchanging. Be prepared for rough weather, and then switch so you can sleep, digest and balance. Find your breath. Breathe deep into your belly, and on the outbreath let go of what you've been holding since the warnings began. The forecast inside your breathe is calm, soothing... like a still forest at sunrise.

Meditation is not stopping your thoughts. Meditation is watching your thoughts from a position of such nonresisted kindness, that they feel seen enough to pass on through. Next year BeCalmed Studio will align more with meditation.
