Lammas/Lughnasadh 🌿🌻☀️🌽🧡✨
(Português nos comentários)
On February 1st we celebrate Lammas in the Southern hemisphere. The Goddess (Mother Earth), receives the last energies of the God (Sun), that are directed to the crops, allowing abundance to all Nature so we can survive winter time that is approaching, since the weakening of the Sun announces the end of summer and indicates that the period of fertility will come to an end. All phases are important to the harmony of the cycle, and Mother Nature comes to teach us not to fear this process as it is necessary to the cycle of life.
The Celtic God Lugh represents the Sun in Pagan traditions, giving name to this celebration. The offerings are made in gratitude to the Sun, when we acknowledge the God’s sacrifice four us, honouring the fertility of the sacred union of the Goddess and the God. Lammas means “the dough of Lugh”, which represents the harvest, the food made with its grains and that is shared in thanks giving among all who partake in the celebration.
When we talk about harvest, it’s not only about the crops, but also all we planted and harvested along our journey in the year, and that’s why this is the moment we give thanks to Nature for its life that nourishes us, allowing us to live this period of prosperity and abundance in our lives. ✨
