We are the local Surf Rescue service in Raglan, New Zealand. We provide a lifeguard service from Labour Day (October) to Easter (March/April) weekends each year over the busy summer period. We provide search & rescue, first-aid and community safety services. We work closely with other Raglan emergency services such as Coastguard, St John Ambulance & NZ Police. Big shoutout to Ella, who recently represented Raglan at a SARX training in the South Island!
Check out what she had to say about the awesome experience 👇

As a senior search and rescue squad lifeguard with 14 years lifeguarding experience, I was selected by SLSNZ SAR staff to take part in the annual regional SAR Exercise in Otago Region based in Doubtful Sound. This opportunity for leadership development and networking with SAR staff from other regions was invaluable, with opportunities for refining large scale search operations with multiple on water assets and gaining skills with Garmin GPS devices. Part of the SAREX involved setting up and communicating with the Incident Management Team (IMT) alongside having an on-water Incident Control (IC), which led to an overall efficient search and rescue scenario recovering all the lost persons and items of interest. Thank you SLSNZ for an amazing opportunity to network and connect with so many incredible individuals, who work behind the scenes and at the coal face to deliver the SAR services to those in need.

Mauri ora,
Ella Boyens

We’re stoked to share that Amber, has been selected for the 2025/2026 BP Leaders for Life programme!

Amber is not only one of our Patrol Captains, but also serves as Raglan’s Youth Representative — constantly stepping up to lead, inspire, and support others both on and off the beach.

This next step is so well deserved – we can’t wait to see everything she achieves through this awesome programme.

Proud is an understatement.

Last night Fletcher Harnish and Chris Bugsy Malone, on behalf of the Raglan Surf Lifesaving Club, attended the NZ Search and Rescue Awards held at Parliament.

Raglan SLSC was awarded the 2024 Operational Gold Award(the highest honor in NZSAR) for the rescue of 3 people on the Raglan Bar in December 2024.

"On 1 December 2024, Police were informed a small fishing boat carrying a family of three had capsized crossing the Raglan Bar. Although the son had been thrown clear and the mother was able to get out of the boat, the father remained trapped in the upturned hull, breathing from a small air pocket. Members of the Raglan Surf Life Saving Club were training nearby with Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRB). They responded immediately and pulled the mother and son from the water. Unable to locate the father, a Surf Lifeguard entered the water to check the boat, cutting his way through tangled fishing line. After banging on the hull and hearing a response from the forward cabin, the surf lifeguard forced open the cabin hatch and pull the trapped man free. These swift actions almost certainly saved the man’s life."

This is amazing recognition for not only our local Raglan clubbies but all volunteer lifeguards across Aotearoa.

Congratulations to Far North Surf Rescue for their Certificate of Achievement for the rescue of fishermen swept from rocks near Tapotupotu Bay.

Special thanks to all of our sponsors and supporters who make these types of rescues possible.
