There’s been a long pause in the Juniper Studio. In that time my child has had another birthday, my home has moved from Ruapuke to Te Uku, and I’ve had little time to make, but in that little time I’ve been working with silver more than scent.

It’s strange to have spent so long away from experimentation, from developing new perfumes and working with unfamiliar materials. The last years have been rolling- just keeping up with my local stockists and a few direct orders.

I’m excited to clear some stock and make some space for new things. I’ve loved looking through old iterations of market signs and special batch descriptions, appreciating things I’ve made. I’ll be bringing lots of bottles to the Raglan Creative Market, Sunday 8th at the Old School Art Centre. Maybe see you there (:

Nothing like a waterfall to remind you of nature’s power. Here at Huka the winter stone eroded by moments, droplets fresh and free flowing. The air charged with the rising mist and the scent of damp foliage, rock, earth and cold. Movement so fierce, you can’t help but feel still or slow.

There is so much vibrancy this time of year. These foxgloves (thanks bird) have burst forth next to the studio and every time I see them I smile - to remember them as fairy nooks.

I recently learned they are called fox gloves as their tubular bell shape flowers supposedly fit perfectly on the paws of a fox, to help with their sneaking into places unwelcome. 🦊

The last day of 2023, and what a wild and wet one it is!
This year was a quiet one for Juniper Perfume, as our baby daughter has taken much of my time (and heart). I'm not sure what 2024 will bring but I am happy to keep offering my Natural Perfume Oils to those who enjoy them.

Wishing you joy, patience and love for the coming year. Wishing for peace everywhere, for a ceasefire, for softness into the hearts of all those that have hardened. 🤍

Spring has sprung!

Yesterday, on the equinox, I walked barefoot across the earth, sodden and smushy underfoot, around my garden, alongside the trees, under the blossoming peach to be absolutely, completely reminded of the brilliant aliveness of things. After the dormancy and dark of winter, colour has burst forth in buoyant song! My baby is growing at a similar pace, her song colorful and sweet too. We smell the freesia together, marvel at these Californian poppies, their number, their brightness, we sit in the glorious sunshine and listen to the dancing rain, washing everything anew.

I have new energy, new aliveness too - I hope some of it to bring to new scent formulations, as I continue to work on a new EDP range of contemporary alcohol based perfumes, the concepts for which have been growing quietly for a long while now.

About Juniper

There is something magical about perfume.

It could be the way scent can conjure up beautiful memories, taking you back in time to other places, to feelings now passed.

That then these extracts, in tiny bottles from all corners of the globe meet, in the hands of one person, who slowly combines them, marrying them into other tiny bottles, adding droplets, waiting for them to merge and become something entirely new.
