Labour Weekend traditionally marks getting out into the garden and getting those summer crops going. Inhaling dust from potting mix or compost can cause Legionnaires’ disease, a severe and sometimes life-threatening chest infection.
To protect your lungs and avoid getting Legionnaires’ disease:
👉 Use potting mix or compost outside
👉 Wear a well-fitting face mask. An N95 or respirator is best
👉 Wear gloves when handling potting mix or compost
👉 Open potting mix or compost bags carefully using scissors, away from your face
👉 Reduce dust by dampening down the potting mix or compost before using it
👉 Wash your hands thoroughly after handling potting mix or compost and before touching your face or removing your mask.

It's sunscreen chat time - this one's for you, ladies. We're seeing more and more sun spots on faces, and often hear that people don't use sunscreen as "it's in my moisturiser/foundation". Lots of cosmetics have SPF in them - but do you slather on your moisturiser or foundation like you would a sunscreen, and reapply regularly during the day? Chances are no. Sun spots are the result of cumulative UV exposure, so limiting UV exposure using hats, sunglasses and shade, paired with a high SPF sunscreen are your best bet to slow sun spots.

😎Check this out! With warmer days coming it's a great idea to check the expiry dates on those SPF lipbalms and sunscreens, chuck any out that are past it and restock for summer.

🛀Remember to wash sunscreen off at the end of the day, including lips. Not cleaning it off can lead to blocked pores and breakouts, skin irritation, and the sunscreen you put on the next day not being as effective.

With warmer weather just around the corner we have had a message from one of our local dentists that they have noted an increase in precancerous diagnosis for lower lips in farmers. When you are slip slop slapping this summer make sure that you are applying SPF protection to your lips as well!
