Measles is a serious and highly contagious disease. Aotearoa is at very high risk of a measles outbreak. The best protection against measles is the free measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. New Zealand currently has measles cases linked to overseas travel, and the risk of measles being brought back into New Zealand by travellers remains high. Immunisation is the best protection and will help to prevent the spread of measles in our local communities.
