Thousands of people came together this Christmas to support hospice care through Farmers stores across the country, raising an incredible $836,388. Every dollar raised in each Farmers store goes directly to the local hospice, helping ensure compassionate end-of-life care remains free and accessible for families in communities across Aotearoa.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who purchased a Christmas bauble, made a donation, or took a moment to honour a loved one at the Tree of Remembrance. Your generosity is making a real difference.

And a very special thank you to Farmers and their incredible staff for helping raise more than $9.5 million for hospices since 2014. Your ongoing support continues to strengthen palliative care services for patients and whānau, and we are deeply grateful.

For some patients, the best possible care means coming into one of our two Inpatient Units (IPU). Our IPUs provide a calm, supportive environment where complex symptoms can be managed with expert clinical care, and where families can take a breath through respite knowing their loved one is in the best hands.

πŸš— Every day our nurses, doctors, social workers & volunteers travel across our region to provide specialist palliative care, support and comfort to people in their own homes. This care goes beyond medical treatment. It’s about listening and guiding families and whānau through complex situations.

It's also essential to the wider health system. By providing symptom management, medication review and psychosocial support at home, our teams help people avoid unnecessary hospital or GP visits. πŸ§‘β€βš•οΈ

In the past year our teams made more than 33,600 face-to-face and remote interactions with patients, families and whānau, helping people remain safely at home, connected to their communities and
supported with dignity. 🌸🌸

Our IPUs provide a calm, supportive environment where complex symptoms can be managed with expert care, and where families can take a breath through respite knowing their loved one is in the best hands. 🫢

They also play a vital role in supporting the wider health system, providing specialist care that helps prevent unnecessary emergency department and acute hospital admissions. πŸ‘¨β€βš•οΈ

Most patients come to us for short-term symptom management or respite care, with 28% of admissions for end-of-life care. 🌈

β€œHospice cared for my grandmother with such compassion. Even now, years later, I’m moved to
tears remembering how they preserved her dignity. It meant the world to our family.” - Jodie

When people see how our care honours their loved one's dignity, eases fears and wraps around their entire family during one of life's most vulnerable times it stays with them - and it's their support that enables us to keep providing that care for others. Thank you. 🌸

The key to enjoying retirement goes beyond planning for it financially. It's also about setting up a lifestyle that continues to give you joy, social connection and purpose. For Sue Macklin, that meant taking up volunteering for hospice. πŸ’›πŸ’›

Sue volunteers for Harbour Hospice as a community visitor, & also helps in one of our shops, & provides hand and foot massages to patients as part of our Compassionate Touch programme. She says the mahi makes her feel good about herself, plus she's made some great friends along the way.

😊You can watch Sue's video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iKc7YPcPaw
