Our Ellice Rd, Glenfield shop is open 7 days a week now & that means we need more weekend volunteers - for Saturdays and Sundays. All are welcome but this is ideal for high school or uni students. The shifts are only 3 to 4 hours long, still giving you plenty of time to do other things on the weekend, & they give you valuable experience dealing with customers, handling money, learning about effective store layout and the ins and outs of working in a busy retail space. 🤩🤩

⭐⭐This volunteer work is counted as community service in the Duke of Edinburgh programme, and tells future employers that you're motivated, community-minded, proactive and already honing valuable skills for the paid workforce. Yes, we will write a reference for you! Enquire now by emailing volunteer@harbourhospice.org.nz or calling Mandy on 021 527 912

💃💃Wow, what a night! Thank you Theo Simeonidis, Geetanjali and the Rotary Club of Orewa-Millwater , for putting on the most stunning Diwali Extravaganza and raising an incredible $17,000 for Harbour Hospice. This was an exciting event showcasing the tastes, sights & sounds of India through fabulous cuisine and entertainment.

This was Theo's last Extravaganza. After 8 years as the driving force behind these fundraisers he is stepping down, saying now seems a good time to retire. In those 8 years Theo and the Rotary Club of Millwater-Orewa have raised around $150,000 for Harbour Hospice. An extraordinary achievement, with so many local families benefitting from their kindness. 🩷🩷

In 2022 we ran a story about Theo on our website, and now is the perfect time to revisit it. In that story Theo shared that he started the extravaganzas after moving to Orewa and wanting to make a difference in the community. He chose Harbour Hospice as the beneficiary “because everybody is touched by hospice at some point in their lives, and they do an awesome job.”

Theo has a background in entertainment – he and his cousins had a band and performed at Greek dances as teenagers in Christchurch. Then he and his wife, Cristina performed together as Sounds of Greece.

Theo also knows the importance of serving great food, having run his own award-winning Greek restaurant, Theo’s Greek Taverna, in Wellington for 10 years. Here's the story: https://harbourhospice.org.nz/all-greek/

☀️☀️ Theo, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all you've done for Harbour Hospice and our community. With just under 50% of our annual funding needs coming from Health NZ we are absolutely reliant on the support of our community to help us make up the shortfall, and you have played a massive role in contributing to that shortfall. ☀️☀️

🤩🤩You've seen our fabulous new Browns Bay shop, which opened earlier this month - now, how would you like to volunteer in it? We need volunteers Monday afternoons, Thursday afternoons and Sundays - a full day or afternoon. Come join us!

This is a beautiful, light space to work in and it's always busy, so the time goes fast. Meet new people and experience the beautiful generosity of those who donate goods and/or shop with us. You will be making a very real difference in your community, with all money raised from the shop going directly back into hospice patient and family care.🌷🌷

Pop into the store & ask to speak to the manager or call Karen on 021 199 5149.

🩷⭐A huge thank you to the tenacious Murray Chapman, Warkworth Toastmasters and sponsors Barfoot & Thompson Warkworth who hosted another sell-out The Great Comedy Debate fundraiser for Harbour Hospice last month.

🤣🤣We don't know how it's possible but this event just keeps getting funnier. A hilarious evening celebrating laughter, community and connection, with Murray's team (made up of Murray, local cop Hamish Buick and More FM Rodney 88.9 's Nick Rado) beating comedians Hoani Hotene, Jeremy Elwood & Lana Walters, and the Lions winning their debate against the toastmasters. Fantastic food created by Ines and her fabulous team of helpers.

🥰🥰A grand total of $10,500 raised for local patient and family services. We are so grateful for these funds, and can't think of a more fun way to raise them! Thank you to everyone involved in the success of this fantastic evening.

We loved meeting you at the Asian Hauora Day last Saturday on the North Shore, so thank you so much for coming!

As well as share information about how we can support you and your family, we also networked with other health organisations in the area, including the Asian and Ethnic Health Services from Te Whatu Ora, the Cancer Society, Bowel Cancer Screen, Breast Cancer Screen, Heart Foundation, Kidney Foundation, Age Concern, Civil Affairs Bureau and more.

It takes a village to raise a child, and it takes a village to care for our loved ones at the end of life. We are all in this together, wanting comfort, peace and dignity for those we love, so please don't be shy.
