What is a Birth Doula?
A professional birth support person.
They work with you and your partner in the third trimester to help you prepare for your birth. They offer emotional and physical support throughout labour at your home and or hospital from early labour until after delivery. They have knowledge of the stages of labour, the emotional and physical changes that women experience during birth and natural techniques for managing pain and comfort during labour and birth. Evidence has shown that having a Doula can reduce the length of time of labour, lessen the need for interventions, and reduced incidence of PPD. Doulas provide you with Evidence Based Research about the different aspects of labour and birth including procedures and interventions that may be offered to you so that you can make informed decisions about yours and your Baby's care.
