The reason behind our baskets of fresh cut rosemary we provide for all our families.
We love how it leaves a residue of love on our hands, shared in that private final moment as the hearse departs. 🌿

LOST ANZAC KIWI TRADITION

The associations of rosemary with Anzac day have an added dimension, in the fact that rosemary grows wild across the Gallipoli peninsula.

Soldiers crawling through the scrub at Gallipoli would smell of rosemary and the distinct smell made it associate it the campaign long after the war.

It is uncertain when the practice of wearing rosemary on Anzac Day first began, but it has became a regular feature of remembrance early after 1916.

But for a late arrival of poppies for Remembrance Day in early 1922 in New Zealand, it would have been the symbol for Anzac.

Some RSAs in NZ still place Rosemary on the service graves yet now the poppy has become the main symbol.

Who’s thought about the importance of our digital world and what would happen should you or a loved one pass ?

Today many of our memories and important information live online.

Photos. Emails. Social media. Subscriptions.

When someone dies, families are often left trying to work out how to access accounts or close them.

Without planning, what should be simple can become stressful at a time when people are already grieving.

Taking a little time now to organise your digital legacy can make things much easier for the people you love.

We’ve written a short blog explaining how to get started.

As we approach Anzac Day, Tracey, the team and our families at Hibiscus Funerals pause to reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of those who served.

This day is deeply personal for many of us. 💛🌿

Beyond the services we hold and the stories we help preserve, we remember the individuals, the fathers, mothers, siblings, and friends, whose bravery shaped our nation. Their legacy of mateship and resilience is a light that continues to guide us.

To our veterans, those currently serving, and the families who stand behind them: we see you, we thank you, and we honour you.🇳🇿

🇳🇿🌿A Moment of Reflection🌿🇳🇿

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

On this coming April 25th, whether you are attending a Dawn Service or taking a quiet moment of silence at home, we join you in remembrance.

🌿🌿Lest we forget.🌿🌿

The Greatest Gift You Can Leave Is Peace of Mind 🤍🌿

We plan for weddings, for retirement, and for our children’s education—but we often avoid planning for the one thing that is certain.

Taking the time to outline your wishes today isn't about being morbid; it’s about love. It’s about making sure your family isn't left making difficult decisions during their deepest moments of grief.
If you aren't sure where to start, here are the four pillars of pre-planning:

1. The Logistics: Traditional vs. Personal

Do you prefer a traditional burial or cremation?

Would you like a formal service at a house of worship, or a celebration of life at a favorite park or gallery?

2. The Financials: Take the Burden Away
Funerals can be a significant expense. Look into pre-funding options or funeral insurance. Setting aside these funds now ensures your loved ones can focus on healing rather than "how are we going to pay for this?"
3. The Paperwork: Organize the Essentials

Make sure your family knows where to find:

• Your Will and Power of Attorney
• Life insurance policies
• Military discharge papers (for honors)
• Login credentials for digital accounts

4. The "Conversation": Talk About It
This is the most important step. Sit down with your family and explain your choices. It might feel a bit awkward at first, but the clarity it provides is a massive relief for everyone involved.

Planning ahead means your family can celebrate your life exactly how you envisioned it. 🕊️

Have you started this conversation with your loved ones yet?

Let’s normalize talking about the "what ifs" so we can live more fully in the "now."

If I can assist you with these steps give me a call to have a chat or come by for a cuppa.
