Over the long weekend saw us attending to a family to assist in retuning them home north to be laid to rest.

I want to acknowledge how much I appreciate how each family embraces the special touch of a DIY casket and spending that time together to do so.

Our family lounge and visitation room is the perfect space for such a special creative session to unfold.

Reach out to me and let’s have a chat about your simple farewell and what important details that matter and that mean so much to those you love.

An important step forward for bereavement care in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

The national report Tuituia te Kahu: A National Care Pathway for Perinatal Loss has now been released, setting out guidance for compassionate, consistent care for families experiencing the death of a baby.

At its heart, this pathway recognises something bereaved parents have always told us matters most:

Time.
Time to be with their baby.
Time to hold and care for them.
Time to introduce them to whānau.
Time to create memories and say goodbye in a way that feels right.

These are the moments that matter.
And these are the moments that Manaaki Mats help make possible.

One of the key recommendations within the pathway is that families should be supported to spend meaningful time with their baby, and that hospitals provide the resources needed to enable this.

We are honoured that Manaaki Mats are acknowledged within this national report as a resource that supports this essential part of compassionate bereavement care.

Manaaki Mats were created with this purpose in mind, to gently extend the time families can spend with their baby, whether in hospital or at home.

We would like to sincerely acknowledge and congratulate everyone involved in developing this pathway; the clinicians, researchers, midwives, bereaved parents, and advocates who have contributed their voices, experience, and care to this important work.

And we especially acknowledge the Keepa whānau, and all those across the country since 2021 who have been supported through the use of Manaaki Mats. Your stories, your strength, and your love have helped shape this change.

Together, we are ensuring that families facing baby loss in Aotearoa are met with compassion, dignity, and care.

Today, on Good Friday, we pause to reflect on the greatest gift ever given.
The sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. Out of pure love, He chose to lay down His life so that we may know forgiveness, grace, and the promise of eternal hope. The cross reminds us that even in sorrow, there is deep and abiding love… and even in death, there is the promise of new life.

Good Friday is not only a day of remembrance, but a day of gratitude. It teaches us compassion, humility, and the importance of walking beside one another through life’s hardest moments. Through Jesus’ sacrifice, we are shown what true love looks like.

selfless, gentle, and enduring.

In funeral service, we feel especially blessed to serve families during times of loss and grief. Each day, we are entrusted with sacred moments. Supporting hearts that are hurting, honouring lives that were deeply loved, and bringing comfort where it is needed most.
We truly believe this work is God’s work here on earth: serving with kindness, dignity, and compassion, and reminding families that they are never alone.

Today we hold close the message of hope that Good Friday brings — that love is stronger than death, and faith carries us through even the darkest days.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and meaningful Good Friday, filled with reflection, faith, and love. ✝️🤍

🌿A Message of Hope This Easter🌿
🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿

As the sun rises this coming Easter morning, the team at Hibiscus Funerals wishes to share a message of peace and hope with our community and families. ⛪️

For many of us, Easter is a season of profound reflection. In the Christian faith, it represents the ultimate promise: ….that even after the darkest of Fridays, a Sunday of renewal is coming. It is a reminder that light outshines darkness and that life, in all its beauty, is eternal.

Why We Celebrate the Blessing of Easter.🌿🌿🌿

💛Renewed Hope: It serves as a gentle reminder that even in seasons of grief, there is a path toward healing and peace.

💛The Power of Love: Easter celebrates a love so great that it transcends all boundaries, offering comfort to those who are weary.

💛New Beginnings: Just as the spring air brings new growth, this season encourages us to look forward with faith and a comforted heart.

In our work, we see every day how precious life and legacy truly are. This weekend, we hope you find time to rest, reflect, and cherish the moments spent with those you love.

May the blessings of the resurrection fill your home with warmth and your heart with quiet joy.

From our family to yours, have a blessed and peaceful Easter…..and go ahead ….. eat the chocolate. Life is to short not to 😜🩷

A huge thank you to the team at Auckland Memorial Park & Cemetery for the amazing box of treats. I broke my way in.

Our family, caring for your family.
