MOH guidelines for m**h clean-up in homes where m**h has been smoked has changed. It is now considered safe to occupy a dwelling where m**h has been found up to 2.0 µg/100cm2 if the home is not carpeted. The new guidelines differentiate between properties where m**h has been smoked and those that have been used as m**h labs. Total Inspections will be using these new guidelines effective from the 26th October 2016.

A Ministry of Health funded report provides key recommendations for the country's first national standard for m**hamphetamine contamination.

Police acknowledge that P or m**h still has a huge presence in Northland. Unfortunately this problem has left so many properties contaminated so we recommend that any prospective home buyers have the property checked for m**h before you buy. Who saw the recent Fair Go programme on m**h testing? There were certain points made in this programme that do not sit well with Total Inspections.
Firstly, the comment was made that a house was tested in the same spot by two different companies and the results came back different. Total Inspections say that this is skewed information. If you test in one area you are effectively removing the m**h from that place. So if then re-tested in the same spot, of course the m**h levels will be lower for the next test.
The toxicologist on this same programme commented that he believed that m**h levels of 10ug/100cm sq would be safe for habitation. NZ guidelines for safe m**h levels are currently set at 0.5ug/100cm sq. In every other country in the world, safe guidelines are between 0.5ug/100cm sq to 1.5ug/100cm sq. Total Inspections have been working on a home where levels were 2ug/100cm sq and both inspectors in the house could feel immediate effects of the contamination. ie: itchy eyes and a scratchy throat. We would certainly NOT be comfortable recommending any home with levels above 1ug/100cm sq as safe for rehabitation. To us, this is unethical.
