Due to an increase in patients attending our health centre we would like to encourage a more “booked” approach to help reduce congestion and wait times
Please if possible ring to make an appointment rather than “dropping in” 068558376

MEASLES ALERT - NATIONAL RISK ESCALATED

Health New Zealand has confirmed new measles cases in Manawatu and Nelson, including children with no recent travel history. This suggest that community transmission is now occurring.

Measles is highly contagious; one person can infect up to 18 others.
The virus spreads through the air and can linger for up to two hours.
It can cause serious complications including pneumonia, hearing loss, and brain inflammation.

WATCH FOR SYMPTOMS
If you or your child develops any of the following, especially after visiting a location of interest:

FEVER
COUGH
RUNNY NOSE
RED, WATERY EYES
RASH (typically starts on face and spreads)

Stay home and CALL AHEAF BEFORE VISITING THE CLINIC. This helps protect others and allows us to prepare.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Check your immunisation status. Two doses of the MMR vaccine provide strong protection.
STAY HOME IF UNWELL

Meningococcal Vaccines for 13-25 year olds (inclusive):
Just a reminder as the year draws to a close, that our teenagers and young adults may be going into close-living environments next year (boarding schools, tertiary hostels, defence barracks, youth justice residences, prisons) and are more at risk of Meningococcal disease in these situations.
As long as it is within three months of them entering such accommodation, they are eligible for funded Bexsero (MenB) – 2 doses, 8 weeks apart, and one Menquadfi (MenACWY). This includes children who turn 13 years of age while living in boarding school hostels.
