WEATHER UPDATE π§οΈ
** 10.40am, Saturday 14 February 2026 **
MetService has issued an Orange Rain Warning. Please see our most recent post for updated information.
** 4.30pm, Friday 13 February 2026 **
Kia ora koutou Hawkeβs Bay,
You may have seen reports of severe weather affecting other parts of the country, with Warnings already in place nearby.
We wouldnβt usually post about a Severe Weather Watch, but weβre doing so this time because thereβs still some uncertainty around the track of a significant low-pressure system expected to affect eastern parts of the North Island and the upper South Island on Sunday and Monday.
CURRENT SITUATION
MetService has issued a Heavy Rain Watch for all of Hawkeβs Bay.
This is currently in effect from 3.00pm today until 6.00pm Sunday, 15 February.
WHAT WE ARE DOING
Weβre coordinating with local councils, MetService, and partner agencies, and closely monitoring updated forecasts.
A multi-agency regional coordination meeting will be held on Saturday. This will include the latest information from MetService and HB Regional Council based on the most up-to-date modelling.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Forecast:
- Periods of heavy rain, with a chance of thunderstorms, until early Saturday morning.
- Localised downpours of 25β40mm per hour are possible, especially inland.
- More widespread heavy rain is expected from Saturday evening, particularly about the Wairoa District.
- There is a high chance parts of the region will be upgraded to a Warning for late Saturday into Sunday.
Possible impacts:
- Streams and rivers may rise rapidly.
- Surface flooding and slips are possible.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Clear drains and gutters now to help reduce surface flooding.
- Avoid low-lying areas during heavy rain.
- Drive to the conditions.
- If youβre concerned about surface flooding in your area, contact your local council.
