Brilliant info on gardening to grow your own healthy and nutritious vegetables and fruit!

January is an opportunity to extend our summer crops. To create a lovely continuity after our current crops call it quits. Successional planting/ sowing is the proper name. Let’s just call it – not going hungry, little and often planting, or production plus.

And while we’re at it, let’s think about dinner in Autumn. Let’s get some new long term stuff planted to keep your vegie patch abundant all the way from Summer through Autumn. Not in an excessive, big mission way. But a regular, little way.

When have you ever had a good day after going to bed angry 😤? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know I certainly haven’t, in fact the day is usually pretty 💩 until I resolved the “issue” at hand. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So here’s my theory - starting 2021 with anger, resentment and/or negativity towards the year that has been, is effectively like going to bed angry and expecting to feel better suddenly when it’s 2021. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I might be speaking out of personal experience here... I was eagerly waiting for 2020 to end and was hoping for a brilliant 2021 - but guess what? I woke up on the 1st still grumpy at the year that’s been 😏. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We can not change what has been, but we can change what we choose to focus on (this is no easy task by any measure, but worth the effort). That’s my goal anyway. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ll put some of my 2020 highlights in the comments 😜. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Curiosity got the best of me 🙊!

I have talked about the benefits of pasture fed, free range food frequently - so I thought I will do a quick, simple comparison 🤓.

I bought some free range size 6 eggs from the supermarket and then use a similar size egg from our Real Good Egg range. I used an egg that was a few days old to have a fair comparison. The egg from the Real Good Egg range was the smallest egg we had - our eggs are a range of sizes, but most are size 7 plus!

The difference was notable as soon as the eggs were cracked - the Real Good Egg was cracked first.

I’ll let the photos explain the results...

Real Good Eggs are available in Taupo - message me for details 👍.

Playing in the dirt with the best workmate ever 🥰!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yesterday was pretty wet and chilly but I had a great day planting fruit trees on the farm with Delilah - life is good! While digging in the dirt I thought about how most people would be wearing gloves to protect their skin and health - yet there I am gloveless, playing with and investigating every bug I found (and I found a few 😮) and enjoying the feel and smell of fresh dirt on my hands.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
See the thing is, our bodies are made up of the same microorganisms that are found in dirt - this is probably why so many cultures believes that people come from or were made from dirt! Yet in today's world, getting our hands dirty in actual dirt or walking barefoot through a field, just doesn't happen that often. Combine that with the constant disinfecting and we are destroying the natural microorganisms that we need to be exposed to. These microorganisms are essential for good health, mental health, and every aspect of wellbeing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I urge you, when you can, get your hands dirty, walk barefoot and get into nature. I promise you, you will feel great for it 😁.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So what about protecting the skin on your hands? I highly recommend our Busy Bee Hand Balm for gardeners, farmers or anyone who works with their hands 😉. For more information have a look at our website: https://www.beerealnutrition.com/product-page/busy-bee-hands

How the cluck are you 🐔😋?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I have been MIA on social media for awhile now, and been loving it 🙊! I love what I do and I love being able to share information on nutrition, skin care and wellness on platforms where I can reach so many more people. However, I just needed to do more...
So, I have been on a mission to start making a change in our food quality - so that I can share information on what "good quality" food is, AND be involved in creating great quality food ✨.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So please meet our 100% FREE RANGE chickens who are pasture fed and welcome to explore where ever they wish to go. They eat a highly diverse diet full of pasture, bugs and a tickle of grains, to produce eggs high in Omega 3's, Vitamins A, D and E! Most of all they are delicious and contain no nasties! There are no cages, barns or bucket loads of grains - just happy hens and Real Good Eggs!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These hens follow our cows around the farm, kindly fertilising the farm as they go, and eating their fair share of bugs - a brilliant natural insect control 😉. Working with nature is just so much better than trying to control it 👊.

If you are interested in buying some Real Good Eggs just send me a message!

Yoghurt is such a delicious and nutritious food - and so easy to make. Here is some interesting info on this super food 🤓⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yogurt (also spelled “yoghurt” or “yoghourt”) is considered by most regulatory agencies worldwide to be a fermented milk product that provides digested lactose and specifically defined, viable bacterial strains, typically Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus. It is a source of several essential nutrients, including protein, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, and vitamins B2 and B12, and serves as a vehicle for fortification.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yogurt is an ancient food that has gone by many names over the millennia: katyk (Armenia), dahi (India), zabadi (Egypt), mast (Iran), leben raib (Saudi Arabia), laban (Iraq and Lebanon), roba (Sudan), iogurte (Brazil), cuajada (Spain), coalhada (Portugal), dovga (Azerbaijan), and matsoni (Georgia, Russia, and Japan). It is believed that milk products were incorporated into the human diet around 10 000–5000 BC, with the domestication of milk-producing animals (cows, sheep, and goats, as well as yaks, horses, buffalo, and camels).2 However, milk spoiled easily, making it difficult to use. At that time, herdsmen in the Middle East carried milk in bags made of intestinal gut 😲. It was discovered that contact with intestinal juices caused the milk to curdle and sour, preserving it and allowing for conservation of a dairy product for extended periods of time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Indian Ayurvedic scripts, dating from about 6000 BC, refer to the health benefits of consuming fermented milk products. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Antibiotics have an essential place in health and they heal people, however we have become accustomed to using them "just in case" we need them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The unfortunate part of this is that they do so much harm to our gut health and microbiome. It is no secret by now that our microbiome is involved pretty much every function in our body, and plays an integral role in our mental health. So the latest research revealing that a single course of antibiotics can increase your risk of developing a severe bout of depression in the following 12 months, really came as no surprise to me. It can also increase you risk of having an anxiety attack by 40%. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So my friends, please only take antibiotics when they are needed and ensure that you look after your precious microbiome in the process. Not just while on the antibiotics, but following the course as well. Ensure that you look after your children's gut health too if they need to go on antibiotics.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉Repair what was damaged, introduce new good bacteria and feed the good bacteria with good food. 👈⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❤Eat more bone broth, make a hearty chicken soup from scratch and help your gut heal.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❤Eat more fermented vegetables that are full of probiotics and prebiotics⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❤ Eat fibre rich foods to feed the good guys and avoid sugary foods that the bad guys love.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❤ Eat or make a good quality yoghurt and avoid adding sweeteners or ones that contain soy.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❤ Consider taking a probiotic before, during and after your antibiotics. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Look after yourself, there are some nasty bugs going around and they are hitting people hard after the rigorous disinfecting. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As always, send me a message if you would like some help on improving your gut health or simply improving your health 😘.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The food we eat today is nutritionally a different product to the food our grandparents ate.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When you look at these results, it needs to become clear why there is no room in our diets for junk food, convenience foods and highly processed fatty, sugary foods. We NEED to be eating more fresh vegetables, fruits, quality dairy products and quality meat products to obtain our baseline nutrition. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Scales won’t budge?
---⠀

This post is not intended for everyone. If your goal is not fat loss and you’re not watching your calories, keep scrolling.⠀

A common thing I hear is “I’m eating healthy, but I’m not losing weight”. Yep 🙋🏻‍♀️ I’ve heard this many times. After eating healthy for a few weeks you had gained weight!!! Like WHAT???!!! 😩⠀
Just because something is deemed “healthy:” it doesn’t mean its calorie free.⠀

To lose weight you need to be in a calorie deficit- Meaning - consuming/eating less calories and burning more calories than you are consuming. ⁣⁣The truth is many “health” foods are nutrient dense but also very high calorie dense.⠀

So eating “healthy” food alone isn’t going to induce fat loss. Being in a total overall calorie deficit is.⠀

A few points I would like to make you aware especially if you’ve been feeling stuck in seeing results.⠀

1️⃣Something that is labeled as a “HEALTH FOOD” is not necessarily great for weight loss.⠀

2️⃣Something that is labelled “LOW FAT” doesn’t mean its calorie free and not full of carbs/sugars.

3️⃣”SUGAR FREE” doesn’t mean calorie free.

4️⃣Something labelled “GLUTEN FREE” doesn’t mean physique friendly.

5️⃣PROTEIN BARS/SHAKES contain calories too.

YOU MUST BE IN A CALORIE DEFICIT TO LOOSE WEIGHT.
At the end of the day - ANYTHING you consume besides water contains calories.

Healthy calories are still calories and consuming too many WILL lead to weight gain. It doesn’t matter where the calories are coming from, they all count.
Portion sizes is key to seeing results and getting active.

Be mindful, no matter how nutrient-dense your diet is, you will not lose weight if you are not in a calorie deficit.

If you have any Q’s send me a message 😉

Our Story...

Sports and health has always been a passion of mine. This lead to me completing a Batchelors of Health Science in Psychology and then I completed a PGDip in Human Nutrition. While studying I started working with people and realised that my soul goal in life is to improve people’s health and wellness. I soon started working with big community groups educating people about healthy eating and was running my own clinic. Sports was always a passion and before I knew it I was working with over 15 different sports code, writing nutrition resources, educating coaches at all levels and dig nutrition presentations to athletes and coaches from grassroots level to elites.

As my family expanded, I cut my work back to only doing contracting work for sports organisations and coaches. This was a great way to keep my finger in the pie and keep my passion alight.

Then nearly six years ago our lives changes substantially when our fourth daughter was born, severely allergic to pretty much everything. She was so sensitive to her allergens that if she touched a surface that had trace amounts on it she would break out in hives. Nearly six years on, and boy our lives have changed since, a lot of learning happened along the way. I did a lot of research into how to help my daughter’s immune system correct itself through nutrition, gut health and skin repair. My daughter is a new kid, clear skin and only two allergies left. She can touch surfaces and not get hives or eczema!

This whole experience opened my eyes to how we as consumers are misled into buying products that we are told are “good for us”, “natural” or “made with natural ingredients.” I don’t even want to think about how many products I bought thinking that it was going to be good for my child - none of them really where. Saying that something is made with natural ingredients can just mean that they use a natural ingredient, along with a bunch of other ingredients that I still can’t pronounce.
