Watch from 0.30secs

Kanye West describes misunderstanding of Mental illness caused by stigma perfectly here. I often use analogy of "injury" in therapy to not only help people develop empathy and understanding for their loved ones with mental illness but to also help clients develop self compassion for themselves and motivate them toward self-care to overcome mental illness.
Validation, kindness, patience and respect are among the most important things we can offer ourselves and those around us when we are recovering from a "brain injury".

In this clip from My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman Season 2, Kanye West opens up about his mental health. This season, Dave also sits...

Introducing 63 Seventh Ave

Our new room is located in this beautiful old villa which is kindly leased to us by Wilson Osteopathy.

With plenty of on-site parking, a welcoming waiting area, and nestled amongst nature as old as the building itself we really have found the most therapeutic environment to belong in.

We share this location with some amazing health professionals including a counsellor, another psychologist and of course osteo's.

It's exciting to announce that not only is Wellform Psychology open and back in action we are also in a beautiful new premise (photos to come).

With a fresh new premise comes motivation to take a fresh approach to psychological service delivery. Although face-to-face therapy will always be my preferred means of service delivery, this year I will look at building up capacity to provide online services to client's who are unable to make it into the office for whatever reason.

I also have some very exciting options for children and young people in the woodwork as well. This will include online support and school holiday group work.

Very excited to be working with my wonderful clients again and please feel free to share this to all who may be interested ☺️

Couple of cool new additions to our room!

A very interesting and important part of the work we do in therapy is Psychoeducation. Sometimes it can be incredibly helpful for people to understand the function of the brain and the structures that are responsible for that function.
Knowledge is power, so when we increase our knowledge of the brain we have the power to influence it's function and therefore influence the way we think and feel. Cool hey?!

What would you like to know about the brain?

Our room is calm and quiet, literally and aesthetically.

It's a place for you to be still and focused on whatever it is that brings you in to see me. Even if you can't quite find the words to describe what it is that brings you in, together we will create some clarity.

Day 7 - Mental Wellbeing Tips/Trick/Tools/Tasks

Todays tool is one for when we are feeling anxious, overwhelmed or struggling with racing thoughts. It's simply distraction, but in the psychology world we call it a grounding technique. So there's a couple of things you can do in the moment to distract yourself - count out a timetable as high as you can, choose a shape and try to find all the objects around in that shape, or chose a category (colours, animals, car makers, etc) and name as many things in that category as possible. But remember, it's a tool to help you get through just this moment. If these moments occur regularly for you, it could be a good idea to talk to a professional.

I’ve been nominated by Matthew Blackbourn to raise awareness for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), anxiety and depression that drive people to commit su***de.

Today I nominate Jacs NZ

The rules are simple:
*Once you are nominated your 25 days starts the following day.
*Everyday for 25 days take time out to do something that truly contributes to your mental wellbeing.
*If you want to post about it, that's awesome! Let normalise engaging in behaviours that contribute to mental health!!
Let's reach as many people as possible. Let's hope by doing this we can build awareness for anyone who is suffering from a mental illness, you are not alone and we are here for you.
Don't be afraid to ask for help.
