SILC are proud to celebrate Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori - Māori Language week.

Last week in our office Māori KUPU (Māori words) were placed in and around our common areas to identify what they translate to in Māori.

“Kia Kaha Māori ”cards have been made up with simple to use every day phrases that staff can use throughout their day.

At the beginning of each day an email gets sent out for Te Rerenga Kupu o Te Rā (The phrase of the day) staff are encouraged to respond back regardless of our level of competence or confidence, Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori is about encouraging everyone to promote the use of the Māori language.

Why do we celebrate?
To commemorate the presentation of the 1972 Māori language petition on September 14th, 1972 to parliament, It has been marked every year since 1975.

Kei te pehea koe e whakanui ana i te wiki o te reo Māori?
How are you celebrating Māori language week ?

As a 23 year old with a disability, I require support with many aspects of my life. I am looking for someone who wants to work differently and is willing to learn the role of a community Support Worker.

This role would suit someone who is keen to engage with my interests and daily activities in and around the community, having fun along the way. Like many other young adults, I enjoy church on Sunday mornings, swimming, eating out, writing raps, quiz nights, concerts and computer games.

Being a ‘people person’, having a good sense of humour, patience, a motivated personality and being a fan of sports (especially NBA) are all advantageous.

Previous support work experience is not essential, as training will be provided. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain a Level 3 New Zealand Certificate in Health & Wellbeing.

For more information about this position please email recruitment@silc.co.nz OR apply at https://silc.qjumpersjobs.co/jobs/details/Support_Worker_-_Physical_Disability-1078097

Please note that the successful candidate will be employed by SILC Limited.

We all know that the needs of disabled people in our community are often not understood, let alone met. The Vital Update survey is a way to get that voice heard.

Tauranga City Council want to hear from as many people as possible. With this information, Tauranga can become a city that grows with your needs and wellbeing in mind.

The survey should take between 15-20 minutes to complete, and all entries will be in to win some great prizes!

Complete the survey by scanning the QR code below, or visiting https://survey.keyresearchsurveys.com/kr/SILCVU23
