Chronic Subtle Overbreathing
Did you know that many modern humans are chronically subtly overbreathing? This looks like a slightly larger and faster breath than physiologically needed, often presenting as mouth breathing, breathing high in the chest, frequent sighing, and the feeling of not being able to take a satisfying breath.
We need correct Co2 levels in order to transport O2 efficiently around our bodies. When we overbreathe chronically, we can experience brain fog, anxiety sensations, cold hands, lightheadedness and more, as the oxygen transportation around the body becomes inefficient. This creates a loop, whereby we feel like we need to take bigger breath, thus perpetuating the cycle.
While we might feel like we need to breathe 'big' to be breathing well, our resting breath should actually be soft, experienced low in the rib cage. Retraining efficient breathing involves training ourselves to sit in the sensations of mild hunger for air, breathing slow and low into the ribs, through the nose. Practicing this voluntarily and regularly resets our automatic breathing pattern.
PM to make a time to discuss your breathing 1:1!
