Greetings from Gothenburg and yes, it's your foreign correspondent reporting on the hits and headlines from Pegasus #460! In this, the week of the international volunteer (The actual day was Friday) let's thank all 439 of our parkmates who have helped out at Pegasus and everyone else who volunteers anywhere in any capacity.
In a week which saw the 5K app become part of the fabric of parkrun, its developer Michael Clayton became a member of staff and in which Nathan Heaver was joined as a (not) parkrunner by first timer Evan Taylor what happened this Saturday around, on and over Bob's bridge?
Three, yes three parkmates had no barcode to record their achievements but happily seven parkmates took their first steps in parkrun and we welcomed Adam Fuller, Brooke Maddison, Maddison Fraser-Golding, Eve Morris, Michelle Motus, Cameron Motus and Fiona Nesbit. Congratulations and we hope you enjoyed it enough to give it another crack next week. If you keep turning up you can reach a milestone and grab a coloured tee like he White Run10 earned by under 19's now available for Jonathan Mold, the purple/aubergine Run 25 waiting for Mark Yagmich and Tania Ellis, the red Run 50 calling out to Vance Stone or you might hit an arbitrary number like the 200th finish achieved by John Stares today. You might even go on to match or surpass the achievements of Trudy Diggs (357 finishes) or Geoff McMillan (420 finishes) but whatever you do, know you are part of a global family in 23 countries and around 2,500 places having fun every Saturday morning.
In amongst our under 10s through over 80s we had a number of tourists coming to the event for the first time. Some early in their pr journey like Lawrence Zhou, Caelan Elliott and Emma Coull on their second outing and Shane Brindson on his third..are they going for a Bailey? (100 parkruns and 100 different events!) Also joining Pegasus today were Julia Jaques, Charles Salmon, Cherie Pritchard, Michael Shaw, Helen Wiltshire and Paul Wiltshire (the last two have over 600 finishes between them). Were they on holiday, chasing a Cowell (100 different events) or a Freyne (250 different events) or just having a good time doing what they love on a Saturday morning? Whatever, but we hope you all had a good time.
The conditions today were excellent. There was an abundance of happy faces, singlets, sunglasses, baseball caps and t-shirts, (no fleeces required )and someone even running barefoot. Catch yourself on Pegasus FB page in today's collection of happy snaps. The good going resulted in a rush of 15 parkmates with a shiny new PB: Congratulations to Amanda Beck, Deborah Lim, Dillon Bennett, Harry Morris, Jan Reid, John Stares, Karolyn Forbes, Luke Mansell, Mairi Law, Peter Page, Richie Sligh,Stuart Morris, Therese Carshalton, Thomas Carshalton and Yasmin H.
There were no course records today, but courtesy of a PB Dillon Bennett climbed to 95 and Luke Mansell to 88 in the 100 fastest finishes at Pegasus Well done! 18:08 is now the entry point. The entry for the top 100 age grades now sits at 79.67% and there were no new entries this week.
On the virtual podiums we had:
Juniors: Therese Carshalton (8), Thomas Carshalton (9) and Malachi Wilson (45)
S/VW: Mairi Law (4), Brooke Fortune (7) and Gabrielle Gray (12)
S/VM: Luke Mansell (1), Dillon Bennett (2) and Alex Ellerms (3)
parkrun really is all about the Four Fs: Fitness, friendship, fun and faff, the last one being enjoyed over coffee and cake or whatever takes your fancy post pr and best enjoyed down at The Sunshine and Moonlight Cafe Bar..do pop in and join in the park banter next time!
