Pegasus parkrun

Pegasus parkrun Pegasus parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k running, jogging or walking community event for everyone.

parkruns are free, weekly, community 5km events all around the world. Everyone is welcome- runners, walkers, wheelchairs, and joggers of all speeds. parkrun is a positive and welcoming experience where there is no time limit, and no one finishes last. Simply follow these quick and easy steps to join in:

1) Click the ‘Sign Up’ link above to register for free at (or visit https://www.parkrun.co.nz/register)
2) Bring a scannable copy of your barcode along with you. Don’t Forget Your Barcode
3) Head down to Motu Quay by Lake Pegasus near the swing bridge for the first timers briefing at 7:50am every Saturday (rain, shine, or frost).
4) The parkrun briefing starts at 7:55am, and the run starts shortly after. You will receive an email after the event with your results. Be mindful of the parkrun code:

1) Do pay attention to the pre-run briefing. Please do not talk during this time as others may not hear the important safety information announced by the Run Director.
2) Respect everyone’s right to participate in their own way.
3) Under 11’s must always be within an arm’s length of a parent or guardian.
4) parkrunners may not be accompanied by wheels on the course - unless they are wheelchairs or pushchairs. Unicycles, bicycles, tricycles, rollerblades, roller-skates, and scooters, etc. pose a risk to safety and are not permitted.
5) Dogs: We love barkrunners! But only 1 well behaved dog on a short leash per parkrunner. Dogs must be always under effective control - especially at the start. Retractable leashes and waist harnesses cannot be used for safety reasons.
6) Please keep left & be mindful of your local environment and other park users.
7) No barcode, no time, no exception. Please bring a clear, scannable copy of your barcode.
8) COVID-19: Please stay at home if you are feeling unwell.
9) parkruns are run by volunteers. Consider helping us to keep parkruns free, for all, forever by volunteering at an event.
10) Do have fun, it’s only a walk, jog or run - it’s not a race…

Today marked event number 472 at Pegasus parkrun

210 runners, joggers, walkers and sloggers completed the Valentines day event

This included visitors from Wellington, Palmerston North and the UK

Some chose to wear pink or red clothing or tutus to celebrate the occasion. 1st finishers apparently received a red rose but I was a little further back and was happy to accept a plastic finishers' token and smiles and support from the lovely volunteers.

A highlight on the course today was a Royal Spoonbill happily feeding in the shallows of the lake

Did you know that there are over 20 total bird species regularly seen around Lake Pegasus / Pegasus Wetlands

1st timers today completing their first ever parkrun were Connie, Bonni, Everleigh, Beau, Renée, Simon, Thomas, Reeni, Sunjay, Alannah, Ang, Shannon, Sammy, Eilish and Nick

At the top of the total parkruns completed list we had Barry Crossley on 487, Geoff McMillan on 429 and Catrina Crossley on 412

We had some very fast Juniors out there today

2nd Therese Carshalton

3rd Myla Clark Van Notten

The Tail Walker is the final participant to cross the finish line, ensuring that no one is left behind and that all participants are accounted for. This role guarantees that no one ever finishes last, providing a supportive, pressure-free environment for walkers.
Visibility: The yellow vest makes them easily identifiable to other volunteers and participants.
Responsibilities: They walk the entire 5km course, ensure the course is clear, and often carry a whistle or phone in case of emergencies.
Availability: Every parkrun event in New Zealand has a dedicated Tail Walker.

The parkwalker at parkrun is a volunteer wearing a, usually, light blue hi-vis vest who walks the 5k course at a natural pace. Positioned ahead of the Tail Walker, they provide support, encouragement, and conversation to walkers. Their role is to ensure walkers feel welcome, safe, and part of the community.
We also ask that, when we do have a parkwalker, they attend the First-Timers Welcome in order that they can be readily recognised.
