BALL Doris Marion (Dot), QSO, RNZAF, 76846 cpl, peacefully on Thursday 6th November 2025, with her loving and caring family at her side. Aged 90 years. Dearly loved wife and soulmate of Bill for 64 years. Much loved and devoted mother and mother-in-law of Wayne and Makere, Greg and Karen, Lorrene and Les, Dean and Gillian, Davina and Terry. Adored nana to her 16 grandchildren and Nana Dot to 14 great grandchildren. A celebration of Dot’s life will be held at the Les Munro Centre, Te Kuiti on Tuesday 11th November at 11:30 am, followed by interment at Te Kuiti Cemetery. We are blessed here at VJ Williams & Sons to have an experienced, trusted team working together to support families as they go through the funeral process.

Recently we were able to acknowledge and celebrate some significant work milestones for each team member. Both Lynette and Sarah received certificates recognising years of service in the funeral industry by the Funeral Directors of NZ.👏

Lynette has been with us for over six years. Lynette is a loyal, diligent team member with a natural easy manner that helps her bond with people. She is empathetic and it is often her caring voice at the end of the phone that supports families through administration details around the process of farewelling a loved one.🫂

Sarah joined five years ago. It was an unusual time for the funeral industry as we were all working our way through the covid restrictions. From the outset Sarah was a great fit with the team and quickly adapted to the demands of a funeral home. During her time with us Sarah has studied and graduated with a Diploma in Funeral Directing and is currently working towards a Diploma in Embalming.🎓

Phil and Janene are proud to have Lynette and Sarah as part of the team and appreciate the skills, loyalty and contribution they bring to VJ Williams & Sons💛

Time to honour 20 years of service.
Congratulations to Phil New for 20 years of service to the industry of funeral directing.👏
It started on 3rd October 2005 when Phil joined V J Williams & Sons Ltd. Under Bruce Williams’ leadership Phil learned the skills of funeral directing and embalming.

In 2007 Phil studied through the Wellington Institute of Technology for a Diploma in Embalming and graduated in November 2008. Phil was also awarded the Sovereign Industries Endeavour Award from the New Zealand Embalmers Association. 🎓

Phil furthered his knowledge and education when he graduated in 2011 with a National Diploma in Funeral Directing and was the first member of the V J Williams team to gain a nationally recognised qualification.🎓

Through his study Phil was able to bring new skills into the workplace and share his knowledge.

In 2016 Phil and Janene New took the opportunity to purchase V J Williams & Sons which has allowed Phil to continue to serve the community in this honourable and humbling role.

Phil’s work extends beyond his role as embalmer and funeral director. As a skilled restorer and installer of headstones and plaques he is in high demand. You can often find him quietly working away in the urupa and cemeteries around the Waitomo District.

Congratulations Phil on the recognition of your service and dedication to the industry. This is also a reflection on the whole team and the positive, collaborative workplace culture at V J Williams & Sons.
