🙏This year I have noticed my holistic nutrition clients struggling more with mood / happiness / dopamine regulation than ever before.
🙏It's important on 'low days' to focus on small wins through the day; celebrate basic tasks such as putting out a load of washing, taking clothes to the op shop or vacuuming.
🙏Humans are exhausting their dopamine via phone use, online shopping, gambling, drinking, drugs, p**n..... you get the idea.
🙏To help you re-set, try putting your phone in the back of the car when you are driving so you don't check insta at the traffic lights and can zone out to radio New Zealand.
🙏Try walking with no noise, no podcast,
No music, no distractions, just whatever you are bringing into your brain via your senses from your surroundings.
🙏Stop shopping online and go into actual shops to hang out with other humans.
🙏Even these tiny changes can make a huge difference. Your digestion will be better. Your immune system will kick in as it's meant to. Your mindset will allow you to rise to life's inevitable hurdles.
🙏And always remember, if something comes to you easily, it will steal dopamine. If you have to work to get something, you'll increase serotonin.

Sleep sleep sleep....So illusive when you most need it. Especially when writing a thesis on it! 💀This is a wee snippet from my most recent talk on 💤 head over to their website to listen to the whole webinar, or to linked in to sign up for their life changing Tuesday newsletters. In the interim, key takeaways for elite sleep habits include ---
💤 keep a regular sleep/ wake schedule (including weekends)
💤 maximise sleep before midnight
💤 look at the sun first thing
💤 no caffeine after 2pm (it has a 12 hour lifespan in your body so ideally it would be earlier)
💤 30 minute wind down with no screens
💤 sleep in a cool room (18 degrees is optimal)
💤 brain dump before bed so that your mind doesn't start racing when you wake for a wee
💤 use 15 minute increments to change your sleep cycle
💤 replace energising exercise with calming exercise in the evening. Think yoga over spin.

Trigger warning - don't scroll right if you are squeamish 😂 Three days before we flew to Indonesia Oscar was bitten by a white tail on his finger. Thankfully we had a Drs appt booked to get pre-travel 'break glass in emergency' meds and she gave us antibiotics to start on if it didn't go down on its own. By the time we landed it had spread up his arm with painful red lines and burning red dot on his bicep. I didn't sleep much that first night imagining us spending our holiday in an Indonesian hospital, but thankfully the 2 different antibiotics kicked in overnight and the healing began. As a natural health practitioner I try to avoid antibiotics as much as humanly possible but cheepers creepers I was jolly grateful for Alexander Flemming that morning! Imagine my delight when we arrived in Lombok to find this place!! The Indonesian people are the loveliest people and so forward thinking food wise, these 2 spend their days fermenting and healing. So now onto the gut rebuild with the yoghurt, Kefir, sauerkraut and kombucha! Thank you Saaani and Suga for your gut love ❤️❤️❤️

Their programs help individuals minimise the side affects of treatment, rebuild strength and confidence post treatment and maximise recovery through evidence base rehabilitation. When in doubt, bring out. Looking to introduce some new habits this year? Like bringing in a smoothie? Get yourself a fabulous smoothie vessel that curves the corners of your mouth. ITS THAT TIME of year all of my clients are looking to bring in new habits. So we start small with habit stacking. Write down a positive existing hood habit, then stack this new habit onto an already exisiting habit. For example, "I wake up, do my mat Pilates (existing good habit), I'll add a smoothie in before or after this habit". This curates longevity in your new habits and ensures they won't just be in place until January ends 😂
Smoothies should contain 80%veggies, 20% fruit and some sort of protein. This will ease blood sugar spikes and keep energy levels constant. My go to is -------
-ginger, tumeric, green powder, protein powder, nuts, spinach / kale blueberries.

IBS.... currently 60 million people are suffering from irritable bowel syndrome globally!! Life is miserable, symptoms are debilitating and include bloating, cramps, diarrhoea, constipation and terrible pain. This in turn affects mood, sleep, energy... basically every facet of life. Unfortunately sufferers are often told there is no cure and it's either 'all in their head' or they are prescribed drugs which make the symptoms worse. To treat IBS it's important to address the root cause, and this can be quite different from person to person. The 2 biggest causes are food allergies or SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). But there are others including a lack of digestive enzymes, parasites, zinc or magnesium deficiency. Ultimately, your gut microbial ecosystem must be healthy for you to be healthy. And as always, believe the diagnosis but not the prognosis. This message I received yesterday came from a client I've been working with this year who had hit rock bottom after suffering for a long time from IBS. Happiness is getting your life back.
