Great product review of Mr Nits for treating headlice.
Mr Nits Headlice Treatment and Maintenance
If your child complains that their head is itchy and you see them scratching their scalp more often than usual, they may have headlice. Loss of sleep due to the irritation and discomfort is also a common sign. However, visual identification of headlice or nits may be the only indication - especially on adult scalps.
It is a good idea to regularly check your child by wet combing their hair - simply part their wet hair suing a comb and check the roots of the hair. Since the insect needs warmth and blood to survive it tends to stay close to the scalp. If your child has headlice the insects will be visible or small white nits (the eggs) will be attached to strands of hair.
Whilst headlice are annoying and upsetting, they are very common and will affect most children at some stage. Headlice cannot jump or fly and are unlikely to wander far from their preferred habitat - the scalp. They are passed on by infected people through close (head to head) contact and not a sign of poor personal hygiene. Headlice rarely (if ever) cause direct harm and they are not known to transmit disease. Any problems are caused by itchiness which results in lack of sleep, and secondary infection resulting from scratching. The greatest harm associated with headlice may come from the well intentioned but misguided use of medicines with adverse effects to eliminate headlice.
You may have heard horror stories about children who are constantly battling headlice. I certainly have - including one parent applying pet flea treatment out of desperation!! Absolutely horrifying, but unsurprising when you consider that the Harvard School of Public Health study into chemical treatment of headlice concluded that; "Headlice sampled from people who have been treated multiple times with Headlice shampoos tend to be resistant."
The good news is that you can treat headlice effectively and prevent re-infestation without resorting to harsh chemicals thanks to Botanica's Mr Nits range which works in a different way from other products and insects cannot become resistant to it.
Mt Nits special formulation of natural botanical oils effectively disrupts the attachment of lice and their live eggs to the scalp and hair, enabling quick and easy removal by rinsing and combing. The naturally occurring ingredients also act as a headlice repellent providing residual protection against early re-infestation for some time after treatment. In addition, the natural botanical oils in Mr Nits are rich in valuable nutrients providing extra nutrition to damaged hair and assists in soothing scalps irritated from itching and scratching.
Free of chemical insecticides, organophosphates and permethrin, Mr Nits is natural and non-toxic. It contains oils of: H**p, Melissa, Borage, Neem, Geranium, Jojoba, Evening Primrose, Avocado, Canola, Coconut, Sunflower, Wheatgerm and Vitamin E. Furthermore, it is not tested on animals and contains no animal derived ingredients.
So if your child has become infested with headlice, apply Mr Nits treatment to their scalp and thoroughly comb through the hair. Leave for five minutes and then wet comb whilst washing the hair.
It is also a good idea to hot wash items that contact the head. Difficult to wash items (such as teddy bears and woollen jumpers) can be sealed in a plastic bag and kept in a warm place for a week.
The most common cause of management failure is re-infestation. Studies show that headlice can live for up to seven days at between 10 and 20 degrees C*. Mr Nits can be used as often as required - there are no harmful side effects. Mr Nits Once-a-Week is a specially designed light formula for convenient weekly use. Applied weekly Mr Nits Once-a-Week will enable easy removal of lice and live eggs preventing the development of removing dead eggs (nits). Weekly use breaks the headlice cycle.
Healdice is a community problem, not just a school or pre-school problem. It is our responsibility as parents to check for, identify, treat and prevent headlice. Teach your family to not share hair brushes, towels and anything which comes in contact with their hair such as bike helmets. Used weekly, Mr Nits Once-a-Week is a great way of never having to be concerned about headlice again. It is cost effective; it conditions the hair and scalp; and takes less time than it takes to inspect your child's head looking for headlice!
So don't wait for the dreaded headlice notice to appear - check your children's hair for headlice today and make sure you always have the Mr Nits range handy for the treatment and prevention of headlice.
* Headlice survive away from the human scalp for 7 days at 10° to 20°C, 2 days at 25° to 30°C and 1 day at 35°C. At temperatures of less than 25°C larvae do not survive. At temperatures of less than 12°C eggs do not survive. (Kerchoff and Reiche, Stuttgart. Germany. Hirzel 2001.)
