Residents Ross and Angela McKenna decided it was time to downsize and simplify their life. They explored countless living options, but none seemed to offer the future-proofed lifestyle they envisioned - until they discovered Summerset Waikanae. Hear why they love the Summerset life and why they encourage those considering moving into a village, not to leave it too late. 👇

😍 The wonderful Matua Mai Moana group from K'aute Pasifika Trust visited residents at Summerset down the Lane. Formerly known as the Community Day Programme, Matua Mai Moana has grown into a true village of belonging for elders from Samoan, Tongan, Kiribati, Niuean, Tokelauan, Māori, Fijian Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and Pākehā backgrounds. During their visit, residents enjoyed the beautiful programme that includes singing, dancing and the uplifting time of fellowship. One resident sent feedback to the village team after the performance saying: ‘Well done for bringing the delightful group here to the village for us to really enjoy an afternoon entertainment, education, love and inclusion. We really appreciated it and look forward to their return.’ 🫶

🤠 Yeehaw! What a night at Summerset at Karaka! 🤠 Residents had a real boot scootin’ good time at the village’s Country and Western evening. Dressed to impress for the occasion, the village team helped set the scene while residents tapped their toes and joined in line dancing to the fantastic entertainment provided by Jim Joll and his grandson. The talented Chef Bingo and his wonderful team served up a delicious buffet that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. 💃🕺

🐣 Easter Celebrations at Summerset Richmond Ranges 🐣 Residents and staff of Summerset Richmond Ranges enjoyed a wonderful week celebrating Easter, filled with creativity, fun and community spirit. They kicked things off with their 6th annual Easter Bake Off, where 16 talented residents created a delicious array of baked goods. The blind tasting made judging incredibly difficult for judges, Linda Farrelly (Sales Manager) and Edison Perez (Kitchen Manager). 🏆 Congratulations to Judy Browning, who took out first place with her winning Limoncello cheesecake – a firm favourite! The Easter Egg Hunt had residents exploring the village throughout the week and concluded at Happy Hour, where Kris and Trevor Rochester were crowned winners, taking home the Easter gift hamper. 🎉 To round out the celebrations, a group of residents enjoyed a lovely outing to Washbourn Gardens, a stop off for morning tea and then a stroll through the gardens while gathering inspiration for the next Summerset Garden Competition. Activities Coordinator, Sarah sends a big thank you to everyone who took part and helped make Easter week so special. 🫶

🧶Busy needles and big hearts in Whanganui!🧶 The Knitting Ladies from the Summerset in the River City residents’ group have been hard at work, stitching up beautiful ANZAC poppies for a very special cause. These handmade poppies have been flying out the door, with the talented knitters constantly topping up the basket just to keep up with demand. Thanks to their incredible efforts, over $150 has already been raised, with every dollar going straight to support the RSA. Countless hours, plenty of yarn, and lots of love have gone into each poppy - and it’s clear the community is loving them just as much as they’re enjoying making them 💖
A huge shout-out to the Knitting Ladies for knitting with purpose and making such a meaningful difference! 🌟

🏆 A little friendly rivalry goes a long way! 🏑 One of the many perks of having four villages in one region? Inter-village competition, of course! Residents from the four Hawke’s Bay Summerset villages recently came together for their inter-village croquet tournament and what a showdown it was. After plenty of fierce (and fun) competition, Summerset in the Bay claimed the coveted trophy. Huge congratulations to the winning team: Yvonne McKinnon, Peter Joll, David Cooke, Lois Holmes, Bill Morton and Rob Jackson 👏🎉 The sidelines were buzzing too, with supporters cheering and chanting encouragement for their village teams. Final placings saw Summerset in the Orchard – Hastings take second place, followed by Summerset Palms – Te Awa in third, and Summerset in the Vines – Havelock North close behind in fourth. Well done to everyone who played, cheered, and made the event such a great celebration of community spirit! 💚

🐰 Easter cheer was in full swing at Summerset down the Lane as residents and staff came together to celebrate with sweet treats and plenty of smiles. 🐣 Dressed as the Easter Bunny’s helpers, staff, alongside one very kind resident, handed out delightful bags of Easter goodies. From the lounge to residents’ rooms, everyone was included, whether they felt like socialising or preferred to enjoy the festivities quietly. The result? Big smiles, happy hearts, and a wonderful Easter shared by all. 💛

🐣🌷 Easter excitement at Summerset on Summerhill! 🌷🐣 Palmerston North staff hopped into action to hunt for Easter treats hidden around the village gardens. The group had an egg-cellent time watching the fun unfold as everyone dashed about, eyes peeled for the elusive little chicks – and a chocolate prize to claim!
