👀We’ve seen what happens when our people put off their health - not because they don’t care, but because life gets busy, costs keep rising, and getting to appointments isn’t always easy. That’s why at Pacific Health Service Hutt Valley, we do things differently.

We go to where our people already are - workplaces, churches, and community spaces bringing vaccinations and full “Health Warrant of Fitness” checks right to them, just like we’ve been doing with our friends at NZ Tube Mills for the past three years.

What makes this work is connection. Our team speaks in languages our communities understand and feel safe with. We take time to talanoa, build trust, and make sure they truly understand their health so they can make informed choices. 👍

Our mobile outreach brings the full picture of health directly onsite, removing barriers like time off work, transport, and cost so our people can stay on top of their wellbeing.
We provide comprehensive checks including:
✅Physical health screening: height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, oxygen levels, temperature, lung function, blood sugar, cholesterol, and Hepatitis C screening
✅Wellbeing and risk checks: mental wellbeing (PHQ-9), sleep and fatigue assessments, and occupational health screening to identify risks early and support long-term wellbeing
✅Prevention and protection: vaccinations (flu, COVID-19, MMR), vision checks, and tailored risk assessments for heart, lung, and sleep health
It’s about early support, prevention, and making healthcare easier and more accessible for our people where they already are.

With our Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioner onsite, our people receive more than just a check they get clear clinical advice, prescriptions where needed, and practical, personalised support to help them stay well. 🙏🏼
It’s about showing up early, staying consistent, and removing barriers so care is not something they have to chase, but instead comes to them.

We work around our communities needs to make access to health and social support easy, convenient, and tailored to your needs. Contact us today!

You may have seen it on our stories 👀

In collaboration with Te Ngangae Pools, have a NEW FREE Seated Exercise class 🪑😲🪩

Mātua Moves 💪
This class has been designed to combine strength, mobility and making sure not to miss out on a little bit of fun 🎉✨

What does Mātua/Matua/Maatua mean??
Across different Pacific languages, Matua can mean mother, uncle, parents, elders just to translate a few. And that's exactly who it's for, because seated exercise (with options to increase and decrease intensity) isn't just for elderly, or just for physically impaired...buuut I think the kids may get a bit bored, hence it being Mātua 😃

So, if you or someone you know needs some movement inclusive to a wider range of mobility types, or maybe just even want to get out of the house on a Wednesday arvo - come join us!

🕑 When: 2pm Wednesday's (excluding public holidays)
📍Where: The Community Room @ TE NGAENGAE POOLS
🥸 Who: Parents, Grandparents, Aunties or Uncles who want to exercise without the risk of rolling an ankle 🦶

💸 Cost: FREE 😍
🤔 Inquiries: Email zoe.ootaga@phshutt.co.nz 📨

On ANZAC Day, we remember all who stood together, not just from Australia and New Zealand, but from across the Pacific 🇨🇰🇼🇸🇳🇺🇹🇴🇫🇯🇵🇬🇸🇧🇹🇰

From the Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Papua new guinea and beyond our people answered the call. They left their homes, faced unfamiliar lands and harsh conditions, and stood shoulder to shoulder with the ANZACs in service and sacrifice.

Some fought with rifles.
Some carried the wounded.
Some built the runways and roads.
Some protected their homes.

Their names may not always be spoken, but their strength lives on in the legacy we honour today. Every role mattered, every sacrifice counted, and together they stand as part of the ANZAC legacy we remember.

Lest we forget 🙏🏽

Our Whānau Ora service extends our wraparound support right here in the Hutt Valley, helping us meet families where they’re at and walk alongside them toward the goals and futures they envision. 🌠

Whether it’s our children dreaming of becoming doctors, police officers or professional athletes, or parents working toward home ownership, caring for mātua with complex health needs, or striving to be a better version of themselves - these are the aspirations we’re here to uplift and support.

What we do:
➡️Walk the Talk: Our Whanau Ora Navigators walk alongside families to identify and support immediate needs and long term aspirations.
➡️Break Barriers: We provide professional advocacy and direct links to housing, health, education, financial, and wider services.
➡️Navigating Systems: Help families navigate complex systems.

Whānau Ora is about action and ownership. PHSHV are here to ensure our families in the Hutt Valley have the tools, confidence, and support to move through life’s challenges - so the next generation can start further ahead than we did. 🙌🏽

🎒Give your child the best start for school⭐
As part of the ongoing development of our Well Child Thriving Cores checks, we are now delivering Well Child B4 School Checks to support their readiness and development. Clinics run fortnightly, with additional after-hours weekend appointments available by booking to make access easier for our families

This is the 12th core check in the Well Child Tamariki Ora programme, focused on identifying and addressing any health, behavioural, social, and developmental needs before children start school.

The B4 School Check includes:
⭐ Nurse-led check of growth, dental health, and overall wellbeing
⭐ Vision and hearing screening, with follow-up if needed
⭐ Behavioural and developmental screening, including the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire
⭐ Immunisation review to ensure children are up to date
⭐ Referrals and support to access services like speech therapy or optometry if needed

Alongside this, we have our very own vision and hearing technician onsite every Friday, providing basic screening services within our clinic.

This continued expansion reflects our commitment to delivering accessible, community-based care that grows alongside the needs of our Pasifika families.
🗣️If your child may be due for their B4 School Check, or if you have any concerns or questions about your child’s development, we encourage you to get in touch with our team.

A warm pacific welcome to Atonaugaaletuitoga Uila Schwencke - affectionately known as Ete, our Senior Admin. A proud Samoan woman from Saoluafata and Vaiala, she was born in Samoa and raised in Aotearoa from the age of three. 🌺

Ete’s journey with Pacific Health Service is a powerful full-circle moment. As one of the original five staff members 26 years ago, she played a foundational role as an Office Administrator during its early establishment.
Now, witnessing its growth into a thriving, community-led service has been both deeply personal and inspiring especially having seen her own parents engage in its early programmes and initiatives.

Over the past two decades, Ete has built extensive experience across health, social services, and government, including roles with Hutt Valley District Health Board, Te Awakairangi Health Network, and the Ministry of Social Development.
Deeply connected to the Hutt Valley, She brings a values-driven approach grounded in service, culture, and community, with a strong focus on uplifting Pacific health outcomes.

We are privileged to have Ete return home to her PHSHV aiga - her journey, her service, and her heart for our people reflect a legacy of dedication that will continue to strengthen our communities now and for generations to come. 🙏🏽

Keeping the momentum going post our PHSHV Masterclass in Empowering Digital Care has been a priority. This past week, our Equitech Collective and Speedback partners were onsite, working shoulder-to-shoulder with our GM and team to scale innovation that fits our workflows and our Pacific communities.

Special thanks to Chi Ling Chan (CEO) and Yin Hwee Lim for leaning in with us, bringing global insights while staying grounded in the specific needs of the Hutt Valley.

Our ongoing partnership since July 2024 has been driven by one question: How do we use technology to extend care without losing the relational, values-based approach that defines PHSHV?

For us, "digital" is not a replacement for face to face and in person care. It is about strengthening access, protecting staff capacity, and ensuring our nurses, social workers, counsellors, and health promoters can prioritize those with the highest need.

By using tools like Speedback, we are evolving beyond the constraints of travel time and workforce limits.

What’s Next?
Streamlining Access: Sharpening registration and onboarding with QR-supported workflows to make connecting with us easier for families.

Whānau-Centred Dashboards: Enhancing self-management tools so families are connected to their care journey, enabling earlier triage and response.

A Culture of Innovation: Empowering our entire workforce - admin, navigators, and clinical staff to use rapid-cycle improvements to test and scale what works.

Our global partnership thrives because we aren’t chasing technology for its own sake.
We are committed to extending care in ways that are Pacific-led, culturally safe, and future-ready. 🙌🏽

10/04/2026

Pacific Health Service Hutt Valley was proud to deliver our second Empowering Digital Care: A Design Masterclass in Pacific Health Innovation - and our first in Aotearoa, following the inaugural session held in Singapore in 2025. 🙌🏽

Jointly hosted with Te Puna Hauora - School of Health, Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington, the masterclass brought together healthcare leaders, practitioners, and designers from Aotearoa and Singapore.

The session created a collaborative space for innovative change makers to share real-world insights on how digital health tools are being applied across hospitals, clinics, and community settings - with a strong focus on Pacific health innovation and equity.

💎Through distinguished speakers and fireside discussions, we explored how design-led approaches can enable more accessible, inclusive, scalable, and truly people-centred care. Key focus areas included integrating remote care, rethinking workforce roles, and applying behavioural insights to better support patients, families, and staff - moving beyond simply digitising services towards reimagining value-based models of care. We also heard how Tofa Mamao as a Pacific cultural framework can anchor digital transformation.

We extend our sincere thanks to our speakers, partners, and attendees for contributing to meaningful dialogue and action. Together, we are shaping a more connected, culturally responsive, and future-focused health system. 🙏🏼

Leading the development and maintenance of a healthy Pacific Community in the Hutt Valley

Pacific Health Services Hutt Valley is an independent health service working closely with our Pasefika community of 12,000 people in the Hutt Valley north of Wellington. We provide community engagement, development, support, health services and social services. Our focus is A Vibrant Healthy Pasefika community in the Hutt Valley. We have delivered value to Pasefika people since 1999.

Our Pasefika family-centred approach reinforces family strengths, provides appropriate support and empowers families to live well with greater control over their lives. We are very well connected as a core part of our community and our approach is based on socio-cultural evidence about what works. This includes working through established community networks and a focus on faith-led approaches to service delivery. The nine explicit premises from the Family Centre Report offer a good description of our Pasefika family-centred approach.

Our services are very well regarded and we achieve highly on client satisfaction and quality measures. We have built up a range of health and social services in response to community need. We work with Hutt Valley DHB, Te Awakairangi PHO and other providers.
