February update from Disability Support Services around the changes to assessment, allocation and flexible funding

This update is about delivering the first stage of the changes announced in September - and what it means for disabled people, families, whānau and carers.

Some useful information: People for Us is a peer visiting service who visits disabled adults and tāngata whaikaha Māori who live in homes funded by Disability Support Services.

Our role is to hear people’s voices and make sure people are safe and are provided high quality support and services. We work alongside disabled people, families, and services to support positive change and better outcomes.

Seeking expressions of interest! We are looking at running a new evening social group occurring once a month from 5pm-7pm on a Thursday. We will be going out for dinner in the Wellington CBD (within walking distance from Evaro) probably to the same place each month to develop a relationship with the restaurant. There will only be one staff member for the whole group so members of the group will need to be fairly independent. Those who need extra support would be welcome to join with a support person or whānau member in attendance. Individuals will be responsible for paying for their own meal/drinks probably around $30-$40 p/p. There will be the option available to be dropped home afterwards if required. We would be looking to start the group in Feb / March depending on interest. If you/your family member would like to join the group, please email mardy@evaro.nz to express your interest. NB: This group will be in addition to the lad's group which will continue to run.
