The house that Mervyn and Betty Castle built for their family. They moved here with Betty Jr and Maureen, after living in the flat above the pharmacy for several years. Mervyn Jr was born shortly after.

John came to New Zealand as a child, with his mother and siblings, joining their father (John Hughes Castle) who was working around the country and was for a time based in Foxton.
