Great timing for this article! Spots in my classes are opening soon! Come and get your 1 min of high intensity (at least) and reap the gains! For more info and to go on the waitlist to book https://www.sparklefitness.co.nz/group-classes-karori

A huge new study (74,000 people!) just revealed something significant: High-intensity exercise is even more important than we thought.

The researchers found that 1 minute of vigorous activity delivers the same health impact as 4–9 minutes of moderate—or up to 156 minutes of light movement. This completely overturns the old “1:2 ratio” we’ve all been taught.

For active women, this reinforces something I’ve said for years: High-intensity exercise isn’t just for performance—it’s a massive driver of long-term health. Those short, sharp efforts you sprinkle into your week matter more than we realized.

And for people who are more sedentary, the implications are huge. “Just move” is always a good starting point, but this shows us how the real goal needs to be gradually building toward intensity to unlock the major benefits.

I'll be interested to see if this catches more mainstream media attention—because it should! That said, high-intensity training (and the discomfort that goes with it) isn't usually popular. But the science here is clear: A little bit of hard work goes a very long way.

I'll be digging into this further in an upcoming newsletter; stay tuned! In the meantime, you can check out the study for yourself here: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-025-63475-2

Many mums talk about feeling tired yet very few are taught how to recognise true fatigue. During our recent MumSafe workshop session with educator Mish Wright we explored this difference in a way that made so much sense for the mums we support.

Tiredness usually comes from a late night or a busy day and it often settles when you rest.
True fatigue is different. It is a whole-body experience. Your energy drops faster your recovery takes longer and even simple tasks can feel heavier than they should. It does not improve with a quick nap because your system is already stretched thin.

Understanding this difference helps you respond with kindness instead of frustration. Fatigue is not a lack of motivation. It is your body trying to protect you when your capacity is low.

If you notice that you run out of energy quickly feel wiped out after activity or never fully recover you are not alone. Many mums experience this especially when life feels demanding and support is limited.

At Sparkle Fitness, I take a whole-body approach to supporting mums through seasons of tiredness and true fatigue. If you need help rebuilding energy in a safe sustainable way I would love to support you and create a plan that meets you where you are.

Our 2026 schedule is now open. If you want to start the new year feeling stronger more informed and more supported message me to save your spot.

So many mums describe themselves as tired yet what we explored in our recent MumSafe workshop with educator Mish Wright is that tiredness and true fatigue are not the same at all.

Tiredness usually shows up after a long day or a broken night of sleep. It often improves when you finally get some rest.

Fatigue is different. Fatigue is a whole-body experience that comes from severe energy depletion. It is the kind of exhaustion that sleep does not fix. You might wake up feeling the same as when you went to bed your energy drops faster during the day and even simple tasks feel heavier than they should.

Understanding this difference matters because it helps you respond with care instead of pushing yourself harder. True fatigue is not a lack of motivation or willpower. It is your body asking for more support.

If this sounds familiar please know you are not alone. Many mums experience seasons like this especially when life feels full and recovery time is limited.

At Sparkle Fitness, I support mums who feel depleted overwhelmed or unsure where to start. Together we can build a plan that honours your energy and helps you move in a way that feels safe sustainable and supportive.

My 2026 schedule is now open. If you want to begin the new year feeling stronger and more supported message me to save your spot. I have a limited number of personal training and coaching spots. Group classes are also filling up fast!

Noticing changes in your weight or body shape during a period of deep fatigue can feel confusing — especially when you’re training for a run or tri event.
You might be eating the same, moving the same, or even training with more intention… yet your body responds differently.

What many women don’t realise is that fatigue affects your entire system, not just your energy levels. And during these seasons, changes in weight or performance are often a normal and protective response.

When your energy is low, your overall training capacity shrinks — even if you’re mentally motivated. Your body naturally reduces how much intensity you can manage. This influences your metabolism, recovery, appetite, cravings, and how efficiently you can train.

Fatigue also increases internal stress.
So if you’re craving quick carbs, needing more snacks, or finding your usual sessions harder… it’s not a lack of discipline.
It’s your body looking for fast energy to keep you going.

💛 This is your body protecting you — not failing you.

With the right pacing, gentle strength work, reduced training load, and nervous system support, you can ease out of that depleted state and build back safely. Smart training always works with your energy, not against it.

You don’t have to figure this out alone.

At Sparkle Fitness, I take a whole-body approach to supporting women — especially runners and triathletes — through seasons of depletion, overwhelm, or high life load. I work alongside trusted practitioners so you can keep moving with confidence and stay connected to your goals.

If you want to start 2026 feeling stronger, more supported, and better equipped to train through real-life fatigue, I’d love to help you build a routine that works for your body.

Birth trauma is not always loud or obvious. For many mums it shows up quietly in the weeks or months that follow. Sometimes even years later.

It can look like anxiety that will not switch off
avoiding anything that reminds them of birth
feeling responsible for how things unfolded
or pushing themselves hard in an effort to feel in control again.

It can also look like struggling to bond feeling disconnected or feeling like they should be coping better.

If this is you please know nothing about this is your fault. Birth trauma is real and you deserve support that feels safe and respectful.

I create a space where mums can move gently reconnect with their bodies and feel truly seen in their postnatal journey. If you need support or want to explore a safer way back into movement you can always reach out.

As we head toward the end of the year I’m opening spaces for 2026 sessions. If you’d like to start the new year with support that meets you where you are send me a message or tap the link in my bio.
