Kia mataara e te whānau – Measles is spreading again.

With lots of whānau having travelled across the rohe over the long weekend, it’s a good time to stay cautious and help prevent measles from spreading.

If you or anyone in your whānau start showing symptoms - like a fever, cough, runny nose, sore eyes, or a rash - please stay home and phone ahead before going to your GP or health provider. This helps keep others safe.

📞 You can also call Healthline on 0800 611 116 anytime for free advice or answers to your pātai.

Protect yourself and your loved ones:

💉 Two doses of the MMR vaccine (after 12 months of age) protects nearly everyone (99%) from measles.

✅ The MMR vaccine is free and safe for anyone under 18, and for adults who qualify for free healthcare.

🏥 You can get vaccinated at your pharmacy, GP, nurse, Hauora Māori, or Pacific health provider. Find your nearest clinic here: https://info.health.nz/immunisations/immunisation-clinics

👉🏾 Face – is it drooping?
👉🏾 Arm – can they lift both arms?
👉🏾 Speech – is it slurred or strange?
👉🏾 Take action – call 111 right away.

Every minute counts. Recognise the signs. Act FAST.

✨ Te pātai o te rā ✨

“What’s one thing you wish mainstream health services understood about Māori wellbeing?”

We know hauora is more than just physical health – it’s about whānau, wairua, hinengaro and tinana, all working together. 💫

Drop your whakaaro in the comments ⬇️ – your voice helps shape a health system that truly reflects us all.

We can nourish our wairua by connecting with something bigger than ourselves - nature, karakia, or silence.

We might recite karakia, watch the sunrise, sit quietly with our thoughts, or remember our tūpuna.

Even one quiet moment can help us nourish our wairua. ✨

Take 5 minutes to name your thoughts - without judgment.

Sometimes our minds feel busy, heavy, or tangled. 'Naming your thoughts' means gently noticing what’s going on inside, without trying to fix it. You might say to yourself:

🗣️ 'I’m feeling tired'
🗣️'I’m worried about mahi' or
🗣️'I miss someone'.

Just saying it out loud or writing it down can help clear space in your hinengaro. You don’t have to solve everything, just acknowledge your thoughts or feelings.

Karawhiua! Move your tinana in a way that feels good today.

You don’t need a gym or fancy gear to care for your tinana. Hauora starts with small movements - stretching your arms, walking to the letterbox, walking on the beach, dancing with your tamariki, or even just standing outside and breathing deeply. ✨

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week 💚

This year’s theme ‘Top Up Together’ reminds us that hauora isn’t a solo journey; it’s a lifelong journey strengthened through whānau, hapū, and community connection.

In Te Whare Tapa Whā, te taha whānau shows us the power of connection. A kōrero over kai, a shared walk, or a simple check-in can uplift our oranga.
