What role does the lymphatic system play in the detoxification process of the body, and how does reflexology support this function?

The lymphatic system plays a vital role in the detoxification process of the body. It is responsible for removing waste materials, toxins, and cellular debris from the body's tissues and organs. Here's how the lymphatic system supports detoxification:

1. Waste Removal: The lymphatic system collects and transports waste products, such as metabolic byproducts and cellular debris, away from the cells and tissues. These waste materials are carried by lymphatic fluid, which flows through a network of lymphatic vessels and nodes. The lymphatic system filters and purifies the lymphatic fluid, removing waste materials and toxins in the process.

2. Toxin Elimination: The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in eliminating toxins from the body. Toxins can enter the body through various sources such as pollution, chemicals, and processed foods. The lymphatic system helps to identify and remove these toxins by filtering them out of the lymphatic fluid and directing them towards the lymph nodes for further processing and elimination.

3. Immune Function: The lymphatic system is closely linked to the immune system. It contains specialized cells called lymphocytes that help to identify and neutralize pathogens, toxins, and other foreign substances. By supporting the immune function, the lymphatic system plays a crucial role in detoxification by defending the body against harmful invaders and promoting their elimination.

Ear Reflexology or Auricular Therapy is based on the idea that the body is mapped on to the ears as a micro system, just like on the hands and feet.

Visualizing the body on the ears is easily remembered as an image of the body in an inverted foetal shape. The lobe of the ear becomes the head, with the neck and entire spine extending up the curve of the outer ear.👂

A Reflexologist uses their fingers and thumbs to work all surfaces of the ear with a firm yet gentle pressure, squeezing the surface of the ear between thumb and finger, in small circular movements.👌

With ear reflexology there is also the addition of being able to apply an ear seed, to a specific point on the ear to further assist with pain management and issues in the body. This can actually be small black seeds from the Vaccaria plant, or small stainless steel and gold ball bearings or press spheres. 🌱

Auricular therapy has a long history from around 500 BC, and is the most scientific of the reflexology platforms.🥼

Ear Reflexology can be enjoyed as a stand alone treatment or combined in a session with other reflexology, and has the possibility of some rather phenomenal and rapid results. 🌟

Not all Reflexologists are trained to work on the ears, but if you find one in your area we highly recommend that you give it a try!

Free foot reflexology treatments on offer - April 6

Graduating diploma students from the Manawatu Reflexology Training school, now based in Whanganui, will be offering free foot reflexology treatments on Saturday 6 April at the Womens Network rooms - 75 St Hill Street from 10am to 3pm.

Julie Dean, RNZATP, from the school says, “Reflexology is a complementary health therapy which uses a specific pressure technique that works on precise reflex points on the feet, hands and ears which correspond with all areas of the body. This can promote balance and relaxation within the body. Reflexology is holistic and non-invasive working at the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels.”

It can be summed in the saying, ‘Treat Your Feet, Treat Your Whole Body.’ It is believed that during a reflexology treatment more than 7000 nerves in the feet are stimulated helping the body to return to its natural rhythms. This is an opportunity to experience the benefit of reflexology for yourself.
