And Why You Might Want to Pick Up This Habit...
I've been journaling for over 30 years, and it's never been about keeping a perfect record or writing beautifully. It's been my space to think clearly when life feels messy.
Here's why journaling works:
1. It gets the busy thoughts out of your head.
When you're holding everything - the motherhood mental load, the worries, the to-do lists - writing it down creates space.
2. You figure out what you need.
Sometimes you don't know what's bothering you until you write it out and can see it all clearly in front of you.
3. It's yours and yours alone.
No one else's opinions, no fixing, no advice. Just you and your thoughts. That kind of space feels rare when you are busy in carer mode all day.
4. You stay connected to yourself.
Motherhood can swallow your identity whole. Journaling reminds you that you still exist beyond the role - your feelings, your needs, your voice.
5. It doesn't require you to be "good" at anything.
No skill needed. No pressure. Just show up, pour it out, and leave it on the page.
