On Friday, Ngāti Hine Health Trust held its annual general meeting and stakeholder hui at the Hineamaru office in Kawakawa.

The board presented its annual report to a full whare of key stakeholders — whānau, hāpori, and funding partners — highlighting achievements from the 2024–2025 year. These included welcoming new CEO Tamati Shepherd-Wipiiti, fully tenanting all 35 homes in the Trust’s Marohapa housing development in Moerewa, and improving access to clinical services for whānau.

Chair Rowena Tana noted that the Trust has intentionally recalibrated its direction through a strategic reset to strengthen sustainable growth and impact. Pukepuke Rau 50 sets the course for the next 25 years, weaving values and aspirations into a roadmap for measurable outcomes and organisational alignment.

Board member Te Amohaere Morehu launched Pukepuke Rau 50 at the Trust’s new wellness centre, Toi Ora, located within the Marohapa housing complex in Moerewa.

Tamariki have returned from Mana Kuratahi where kura from across the motu gathered for kapa haka. Big events can spread measles, so now is a good time to check immunisation for tamariki and rangatahi.

Watch for symptoms: fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, rash starting on the face and spreading.

If you’re unsure, we can help. Contact your GP or hauora provider.

Tiakina te hauora ō tātou tamariki.

Tamariki have returned from Mana Kuratahi, where kura from across the motu came together to celebrate kapa haka.

With measles cases in some regions, gatherings like this can increase the chance of measles spreading. Now’s a good time to check your immunisation status, especially for our tamariki and rangatahi.

If you’re not sure, it’s all good, we can help. Two free doses of the MMR vaccine offer strong protection.

What kura and whānau can do:
• Encourage MMR vaccination for anyone who isn’t fully vaccinated
• Ask tamariki and kaimahi to stay home if they feel unwell
• Seek medical advice from your GP or hauora provider if measles symptoms appear

Measles symptoms to look out for:
• High fever
• Runny nose
• Cough
• Red eyes
• Rash that begins on the face and spreads to the body

Symptoms usually appear 10–12 days after exposure. Keep an eye out over the next couple of weeks.

Mā te mōhio ka ora. Through awareness we keep everyone safe.

Mahi Poto. Oranga Roa.

Nationwide, only about 80% of New Zealanders have immunity against measles. Māori children are especially at risk, with just 68.4% of two-year-olds vaccinated as of June, compared to 82% nationally.

Protecting our communities starts with you. Make sure you and your tamariki are up to date with both MMR doses. It’s free, safe, and easy, just walk in.
