A new measles case has been confirmed in the Bay of Islands. Several other individuals associated with the case are also being checked for measles infection. Measles spreads easily from person to person.
Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, sore red eyes, followed by a rash.
If you or your whānau have symptoms, stay home and call your GP/hauora provider or Healthline on 0800 611 116. If you need to go to a hospital or medical centre call first and tell them you may have measles.
Your best protection against measles is immunisation. It's not too late to catch up if you haven't been immunised, haven't had two doses of the MMR vaccine, or aren’t sure.
Drop-in immunisation clinics are available tomorrow (Saturday 27 September) in Northland Te Tai Tokerau at:
• 16 Commerce Street, Whangārei 0110, New Zealand, 8.30 - 3.30pm
• Te Ara Tū o Ngāti Hine: Bay Of Islands Hospital, Kawakawa, 10am- 2pm
• Ngāti Hine Health Trust, 5 Walton Street, 10 am – 2 pm
The MMR vaccine is free for most people and protects against measles, mumps, and rubella. Check your immunisation status today.
