Fun Friday Fact! 13 sleeps to Christmas, and Santa is getting his razzle dazzle on. Just remember that you need to think of the health of the mouths too. So, add the toothbrushes and floss to the Christmas stockings along with those sweet treats, as I do. Isn't Santa looking flash? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

New research shows that sour candy can help calm the mind during a panic attack by offering a strong sensory distraction. When anxiety peaks, the intense taste and sensation of sour flavors can capture the brain’s attention, giving the mind something immediate and tangible to focus on.

Panic attacks often involve racing thoughts, rapid heartbeat, and feelings of losing control. By introducing a sharp, sour taste, the brain is momentarily redirected from fear to sensation, helping to interrupt the feedback loop of anxiety. This simple intervention engages multiple senses, taste, touch, and even smell, providing a grounding effect that can reduce the intensity of the episode.

Therapists and researchers note that sour candy is not a cure, but it can serve as an accessible, non-invasive tool for managing acute moments of panic. Combining it with deep breathing, mindfulness, or other coping strategies may enhance its effectiveness.

The discovery highlights how everyday items can have powerful impacts on mental health. Something as simple as a piece of candy can provide relief when panic strikes, demonstrating the remarkable ways our senses can be used to regain control over the mind.

Although it is summer in Australasia and this is a British article, it is pertinent because I often get a cold when I have time off over Christmas. My firm favourites, which include nasal rinsing several times a day and Harker's Herbals. What are yours?

What's the best way to deal with a cough and is lemon and honey as effective as medicine?

NorthlandOfM

Our aim is to evaluate and treat patients with many orofacial dysfunctions or anomalies, correcting poor muscle function of the lips, tongue, face and neck. To enable the patient to breath, chew, swallow and create sound in a normal and harmonious musculature environment. Rehabilitating muscles takes time because those habits have been formed over a lifetime.
