Today is World Arthritis Day ✨

In New Zealand, more than 700,000 people live with arthritis – that’s 1 in 6 of us.

Arthritis is not just an “older person’s condition” it affects people of all ages, including children and young adults. By increasing understanding and support, we can help break down stigma and ensure better care, access, and quality of life for those impacted💜

October is Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month, a time to recognise the vital role sonographers play in healthcare and to educate the public about the power of medical ultrasound.

Ultrasound isn’t just about “baby bump” scans—it’s a safe, non-invasive, radiation-free imaging tool used every day in hospitals and clinics across New Zealand to assess and diagnose a wide range of conditions, including:
-- Certain types of cancer
-- Liver disease
-- Muscle and tendon injuries
-- Blood clots (DVTs)
-- Women’s gynaecological health
-- Troublesome gallstones
…and many more.

Ultrasound also guides procedures like biopsies and steroid injections, ensuring accuracy and safety.

This month, we celebrate the amazing technology and the skilled sonographers who make precise, lifesaving imaging possible. 💙

Endometriosis: Not Just a Pelvic or Reproductive Illness
Endometriosis is often misunderstood as simply a “period issue,” but it's much more than that and deserves a whole‐body conversation.

A Systemic Illness, Not a Local One
While endometriosis does involve tissue growing outside the uterus, research now shows it’s a chronic, systemic disease, not just a gynaecological condition. It triggers widespread inflammation, affects metabolism, the immune system, even gene expression in the brain leading to fatigue, mood disorders, migraines, and more.

Beyond the Pelvis
Yes, endo can affect the ovaries, bowel, bladder, or pelvis, but it can also appear in the lungs, diaphragm and so much more. Its reach isn’t limited.

There Is No Cure! Not Even Hysterectomy
Removing the uterus through a hysterectomy doesn’t cure endometriosis, especially because the disease exists beyond the uterus. Pain relief is not guaranteed, and symptoms often return or persist.

It’s time to break the myths, push for better research, and ensure whole-body care for everyone with endometriosis.

Sign the petition today to demand better care and recognition.
