DESERT TRIP: December 12–13

This stay takes place in a desert camp run by a Bedouin family.

The camp is managed by my friend Amur, his wife, and their children, who warmly welcome guests and take care of daily life in the camp.

It’s a unique opportunity to stay with a Bedouin family and experience an authentic moment in the desert, far from the usual tourist routes.

Taking part in this stay is also a meaningful way to support local tourism initiatives and directly contribute to the livelihood of desert families.

TOUAREG LEGEND ON THE DESERT

When I lived among the Tuareg people of the Kel Ajjer Tribe in Algeria, one day I heard that “God created the lands with lakes and rivers so that we could live there, and the desert so that we could find our soul.”

HYPOCRITE vs ADVERSARY

I have learned over the years that when a person throws their venom at you in a subtle way, i.e without openly confronting you (please translate as hypocrisy), then ignore them and respond with Love.

On the other hand, if the confrontation is assumed by your interlocutor, then respect your opponent, and enter the arena because there is a battle to be fought.

What about you, how do you react in these 2 cases?

STRONG BODY

Until recently, while I was complimented by my athletic friends for my "Strong Body", other people made fun of my unusual physique when the fashion was "Skinny".

Then the “Strong Body” established itself as the new standard. And suddenly my body became acceptable according to this new norm.

For my part, I don't care about "trends", whether it is body type, makeup, clothes or even haircuts.

What is important to me is that I feel good in my body and mind

I inherited a genetic which allows me to have muscularity topped with dense bones. I always accepted it.

If tomorrow "Skinny" comes back into the new norm, for my part I prefer to continue with a Strong Body.

COFFEE LOVER

I love coffee. But in recent weeks my consumption has increased significantly. So I am stopping temporarily to avoid an addiction 😄

Today is my first day without coffee and I have a string headache since this morning. Headache is the result of caffeine withdrawal.

I still went swimming in the pool, but honestly it was difficult. Many times I thought about quitting swimming.

Then I said to myself: "What do you want? Stop swimming to get coffee? So that means you are addicted and therefore you need to break away from caffeine, at least for a while."

Honestly I love the smell of coffee and the strong taste of Arabica, of course without milk and without sugar. Coffee and dates is my favorite combo, as they do in Oman 😊

However, there is a difference between enjoying coffee and being addicted to coffee. In the first case, we drink the black beverage for pleasure and in the second case we consume it out of necessity.

I replaced the coffee with a ginger infusion. It's very good. I am now waiting for the headache to pass 😅

RAIB & LABAN

It seems that there is no "Raib" (رَايِب, curdled milk) in Oman, or maybe it is home-made.

This is a typical Algerian product 🇩🇿 I love it for breakfast with coconut and dates 😋

As I could not find it in Oman, I replaced it by Laban (لـبـن, fermented milk).

Raib stimulates the secretion of bile, the function of the pancreas and liver, and also improves immunity. During my last stay in Dhofar, I had to take lots of antibiotics which impacted my bile. Since then, I avoid fried products (and there are a lot especially in Indian restaurants) otherwise I get sick.

To absorb fatty dishes, such as in mishaki or shuwa that I love, consuming raib and Laban help a lot for my digestion.

If you want to prepare your own raib, you can warm your fresh milk and add lemon juice. Then leave it to cool down. Put it in the fridge and consume it, like a yoghurt, when it is cold old. This is healthy and yummy 😋

When I go back to Salalah, I am going to make a try: preparing Raib with fresh camel and goat milk. It may be delicious 😋
