We joyously welcome Betsy Miller to share on Phytochemistry of Taste at this year’s Chesapeake Herb Gathering! 🌻🌱

Learning how to use our sense of taste is one of the best ways to understand the medicinal properties of a plant, even if we have no experience with that plant. In this class we’ll explore the tastes of herbs, including bitter, salty, aromatic, and sweet, and what those tastes can tell us about the phytochemistry, energetics and therapeutics of an herb.

Betsy is a Registered Herbalist and nutritionist from the DC area. She specializes in women’s reproductive health, particularly fertility and prenatal/postnatal care, but also loves working with both the pediatric population and athletes. Betsy teaches Materia Medica and Herbal Pharmacy at the Maryland University of Integrative Health, and loves to offer plant walks in both Virginia and Maryland. In addition to her teaching and clinical practice, Betsy loves making medicine, especially bitters blends.

We joyously welcome Eziaku Ogbonna, Dr OG to share on Root Cause: Healing through Plant Medicine at this year’s Chesapeake Herb Gathering! 🌻🌱

A practical–spiritual class blending pharmacy, herbalism, chakra energetics/mysticism, and Socratic inquiry to help you uncover why imbalance shows up in the body, and how to heal it at the root.

We’ll explore the pathophysiology of stress, inflammation, hormones, and chronic illness while weaving in Eastern frameworks, ancestral practices, and herbal tools that restore balance across mind, body, and spirit.

You’ll learn:
• How to read the body’s signals and document them through western frameworks
• Herbs for each chakra + body system
• How pharmaceuticals + botanicals work together
• How trauma, belief, and behavior shape disease patterns
• Create your own SocraTEAS blending both science + spirit

Eziaku Ogbonna, PharmD, BCPS, MBA, PMP, (“Dr. OG”), is a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist, Medical Herbalist and Mystic who straddles paradox: a healer within a system built to suppress healing. Raised in Nigeria, she watched her grandmother use herbs as everyday medicine; an imprint that later matured into calling and joy. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore and an MBA in Management & Entrepreneurship from the University of Baltimore, where she was inducted into Sigma Iota Epsilon and Sigma Nu Tau honor societies. She is also a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a certified Project Management Professional. During her studies, she pursued complementary and alternative medicine electives and later trained in herbalism at Fox Haven Farm under Lacey Gean.

This week’s Folkways Healing Village we welcome beloved on Thursday at 6 pm EST live! We hope you can join us!

In this class, we’ll explore how herbs and simple daily practices can support the nervous system during periods of stress, overwhelm, and depletion. Together we’ll look at how different states of the nervous system show up in the body, which herbs best meet each state, and how to create gentle, accessible formulas at home. This is a warm and grounding space to reconnect with your body, soften the edges of tension, and learn practical tools for cultivating steadiness in an unsteady world.

Serda is a clinical herbalist, forager, and wild foods enthusiast whose work blends relational plant knowledge with clinical insight. She offers individualized herbal care along with community classes, seasonal workshops, and guided meditations to help people reconnect with their bodies and the natural world.
