SAASA is taking a decisive step in shaping the future of cargo logistics at Madrid-Barajas. In this interview our General Manager Enrique Vargas shares how SAASA’s strategic entry into Adolfo Suarez international airport at Madrid-Barajas is redefining connectivity between Latin America and Europe.

From a brand-new 14,000 m² terminal and a second concession awarded by Aena, SAASA is positioning Madrid as the natural logistics hub between both regions, serving the needs of airlines and cargo users (exporters, importers, forwarders and logistics operators) with greater capacity, reliability and speed.

The conversation also highlights three pillars that are reshaping the air cargo ecosystem:
• Cutting-edge infrastructure designed for high operational efficiency.
• Strict cold chain control for pharma and perishables, ensuring quality from origin to destination.
• A strong commitment to sustainability, including photovoltaic solutions that reduce the terminal’s environmental footprint.
• This new operation in Barajas expands SAASA’s international footprint and reinforces our vision of a cargo logistics model that is more connected, resilient and customer-centric for airlines and the entire supply chain.

Our special thanks to Aviacion Digital for this exclusive interview and for showcasing how SAASA is contributing to the future of logistics at Madrid-Barajas.

SAASA begins operations at its new cargo terminal at Madrid-Barajas, strengthening the logistics corridor between Latin America and Europe.

SAASA, an Andino Global company specialized in airport infrastructure and logistics services, has launched operations at its new cargo terminal at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, reinforcing its expansion in Europe and enhancing connectivity between both regions.

Developed under a 30-year concession with Aena, the facility has an operational capacity of up to 80,000 tons per year (40,000 tons projected in its first year) and is designed to optimize the handling of perishable goods through a fully integrated cold chain, ensuring maximum traceability and temperature control.

The terminal features an authorized Border Control Post (BCP), SAP-based operational management, real-time temperature monitoring, and sustainable solutions such as energy-efficient equipment and photovoltaic panels.

Operations begin alongside strategic clients, including Binter Canarias, positioning this terminal as a key hub for air trade between Latin America and Europe under the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational efficiency.

🌍SAASA strengthens its presence in Spain

SAASA continues advancing its international expansion with the development of its new air cargo terminal at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, one of Europe’s most important logistics hubs.

With an investment of €20.4 million, the infrastructure includes a 6,000 m² warehouse on a 14,000 m² site, designed to handle up to 80,000 tons of cargo per year. The project incorporates specialized areas for temperature-controlled cargo, enabling the cold chain to be maintained both airside and landside a key capability for industries such as perishables, pharma, and e-commerce.

According to Álvaro Salazar, SAASA’s Project Director, the new terminal represents a strategic milestone within the company’s international growth plan, highlighting its ability to adapt to airline and client requirements, as well as its value proposition based on operational flexibility and logistics efficiency.

This progress reinforces SAASA’s commitment to connecting strategic markets and contributing to Madrid-Barajas’ position as a key hub within the global supply chain.
