PNGCIR committed to saving lives in the community.
PNGCIR has committed to quarterly blood drives at the Sir Brian Bell Centre for Transfusion Medicine to support the community in need and ensure safe blood is always available at the Port Moresby General Hospital. They are the first Government agency to take on this initiative and were celebrated with a certificate of appreciation.
The blood drive was held on Wednesday 29th October at the PNGCIR headquarters in Port Moresby, saw an enthusiastic turnout from employees. A total of 19 blood bags were donated on the day which has the potential to save 57 lives.
The quarterly blood drive is part of PNGCIR’s broader wellness and community engagement strategy, which includes health screenings, awareness talks, and partnerships with local health providers.
Port Moresby General Hospital’s Blood Bank team, led by Assistant Nurse Unit Manager Sr Ohuesaho, praised PNGCIR’s proactive stance. “This is a game-changer,” said Ohuesaho “When government agencies step up like this, it sends a powerful message. It normalizes blood donation, builds trust, and saves lives.”
The Blood Bank has long advocated for structured, recurring donation programs across institutions. PNGCIR’s commitment to quarterly drives sets a precedent that other agencies are now being encouraged to follow.
Mr. Lucky William, Acting Human Resource Manager at PNGCIR, echoed this sentiment: “We look forward to future collaborations that continue to promote health, compassion, and civic responsibility across Papua New Guinea. We invite other government agencies and private sector partners to host their own blood donation drives. Together, we can positively contribute to creating a sustainable blood supply.”
As the first government agency to embed blood donation into its operational calendar, PNGCIR is not only advancing identity—it’s advancing humanity.
