Three artists won top prizes in the First National Painting Competition of the Andrea Domingo Foundation Museum of Philippine Arts and Culture and (MOPAC) and the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP).

Andrea Domingo, chair of MOPAC based in the City of San Fernando in Pampanga, said at least 13 more winners made it to the honorable mention list.

The winners were Jeffrey Ordillo, First Prize; Renante Alejo, Second Prize; and Emmanuel de Duzman, Third Prize.

Renowned artists Romulo Galicano, Fil de la Cruz and Mario de Rivera judged the 220 entries by painters from all over the Philippines last December 5.

In the awarding ceremony held at MOPAC on December 12, Ms. Domingo shared that she and her husband, Rolando, established the foundation three years ago because โ€œwe believe young Filipinos need to be exposed and be made more aware of our beautiful Philippine art and cultureโ€.

The MOPAC, she added, is โ€œa 45 year old dreamโ€.

โ€œFinally, we are able to hold this competition. It is quite an amazing experience to see how much talent, intelligence and creativity exist in our society. We would like to continue to support the arts and artists as for as long as we can,โ€ Ms. Domingo said.

Opened on June 4, 2023, MOPAC showcases the artworks of National Artists Fernando C. Amorsolo (proclaimed in 1972); Carlos V. Francisco (1972); Victorio C. Edades (1976); Vicente S. Manansala (1981); Cesar T. Legaspi (1990); Hernando R. Ocampo (1991); Arturo D. Luz (1997); Jerry Elizalde Navarro (1997); Ang Kiukok (2001); Federico Aguilar Alcuaz (2009); and, Jose T. Joya (2003).

It also features the artworks of Presidential Medal of Merit awardees such as Anita Magsaysay-Ho and Mauro โ€œMalangโ€ Santos.

The second building contains metal age pottery, sculptures of โ€œsantosโ€ (saints), excavated Chinese trade ware, Spanish-era jewelry, pre-war furniture and tribal cultural objects from the Cordilleras and Southern Philippines.

MOPAC is located across the St. Scholasticaโ€™s Academy in Barangay Agustin in the Pampanga Capital City of San Fernando.

โ€œA Weekend of Everything That Fliesโ€ returns bigger, bolder, and more spectacular than ever as the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF), the countryโ€™s longest-running aviation sports event, is set to mark its 26th year with its grandest edition yet.

The hot air balloon festival, which will run from February 13 to 15, 2026 at the New Clark City, will again offer families, friends, and aviation enthusiasts an exciting opportunity to witness non-stop flying exhibitions.

The three-day showcase will feature regular and special-shaped hot air balloons, helicopters, skydivers, paragliders, radio-controlled aircraft, kites, and drones โ€” all soaring across the sky in one vibrant venue.

โ€œBringing all these aerial spectacles together in a three-day event reminds us how meaningful it is to keep offering a true airshow experience โ€” one weโ€™ve honed and shared with the public for more than two decades,โ€ PIHABF Event Director Capt. Joy Roa said.

This year, the festival raises the bar once again with the largest display of special-shape balloons in its history: 22 colorful, creative, and crowd-favorite designs flown by pilots from the United Kingdom, US, Belgium, the Netherlands, Macedonia, Switzerland, Germany, and Brazil.

This edition of the PIHABF will take place in New Clark City, a premier sports hub developed by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), which features a 20,000-seat Athletics Stadium, a world-class Aquatics Center, and expansive open grounds ideal for large-scale outdoor events.

โ€œWe are delighted and honored to host events like this. For New Clark City to welcome and witness this amazing festival is truly special. It deserves to be celebrated in our world-class facilities, which are comfortable, spacious, and accessible to ensure an exceptional experience for all to enjoy,โ€ BCDA President and CEO Joshua M. Bingcang said.

For more than 25 years, the festival has grown into a celebration of aviation and culture. Since Roa and his team of passionate aviators took the helm in its third year, PIHABF has evolved into an annual showcase of the very best flying activities, sports aviation, and international camaraderie.

It has also thrilled audiences with aerobatic superstars like the Breitling Jet Team, the Wing Walkers, and world-renowned stunt pilot Mark Jeffries; welcomed international air rallies; staged skydiving exhibitions and tandem jumps; and, celebrated Filipino artistry through cultural exchanges and iconic poster designs.

Like and follow the 26th PIHABF on its website to get updates on all the activities in the โ€œWeekend of Everything that Fliesโ€ at www.philballoonfest.net. The BCDA Group

Filinvest Mimosa Plus officially opened The Book Stop Project at The Creative Park of its leisure estate in the Clark Freeport in Pampanga.

The Book Stop Project, a community library developed in collaboration with WTA Architecture + Design Studio, aims to create an accessible public space that encourages reading, learning, and community engagement.

The Book Stop Project operates on a simple and inclusive concept: visitors may donate a book and, in turn, take a book they would like to read. This exchange system encourages continuous sharing, allowing the library to grow and evolve through community participation.

Leading the launch were Clark Development Corporation (CDC) Vice-President Atty. Noelle Mina Meneses of the Business Development and Business Enhancement Group; Don Ubaldo, First Vice-President and Head of Filinvest Townships, Filinvest Alabang Inc.; Maple Bear Clark, Inc. President and owner Leah Creus Jollain with Mary Bagasid; WTA Architecture and Design Studio Senior Manager Matthew Sarmiento; and, Bonna Crisostomo, Senior Project Development Manager, Filinvest Alabang Inc.

The program also featured a book reading session led by students from the Maple Bear Clark, Inc., reinforcing the project's goal of fostering a culture of learning in Clark.

At the same time, Filinvest Mimosa Plus invites the community to support the "Give a Book, Get a Book" initiative. Book donations may be dropped off at The Creative Park.

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) clinched the top spot as the Most Punctual Airline among Asia Pacific carriers for the month of November 2025 with an On-Time Performance (OTP) rating of 84.67%.

This is according to London-based Cirium, a leading aviation analytics company that has been tracking the OTP of airlines and airports around the world to produce punctuality reporting for global aviation.

PAL's OTP ratings from August to November 2025 reflect four consecutive months of the flag carrier's top standing in On-Time Performance among its regional competitors. The airline achieved flight punctuality ratings of 89.37% in August 2025, 90.47% in September 2025, and 86.37% in October 2025.

For on-time performance, Cirium tracks a flight as being on-time if the aircraft arrives at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time. The arrival data is a standard reliability metric reflecting the desire of travelers to reach their destinations on time and the need for airlines to comply with assigned airport slot times.

"The PAL team is committed to achieving operational reliability and customer satisfaction through on-time performance. The latest flight punctuality results inspire us to work even harder,โ€ PAL Senior Vice-President for the Operations Group Capt. Roland A. Narciso said.

"We thank our flight and ground operations teams, engineers, and maintenance service partners for their collective efforts anchored on PAL's mission to provide a safe, reliable, and pleasant travel experience exceeding passenger expectations," Narciso added.

Earlier, PAL also bagged the top spot in punctuality in April 2025 and the second most punctual airline in January 2025 and third place in March 2025.

The airline also received a four-star major rating from the Airline Passenger Experience Association or APEX Four Star, an airline rating program based on certified passenger feedback.

Philippine Airlines is the Philippinesโ€™ flag carrier and only full-service network airline as well as the first commercial airline in Asia. PAL's fleet of Boeing, Airbus, and De Havilland aircraft operate scheduled nonstop flights out of hubs in Manila, Cebu, Clark, and Davao to 31 destinations in the Philippines and 39 destinations in Asia, North America, Australia, and the Middle East.

PAL also offers air cargo and charter services, while providing seamless connections throughout the nation and across the world. (PAL PRESS RELEASE)

Japan-based Angeleรฑo artist and Most Outstanding Kapampangan Awardee Dennis Sun came home this December for a special Homecoming Art Exhibition at the Clark Cityfront Mall in Angeles City.

Held from December 12 to 14, 2025, the exhibit celebrates the vibrant colors, heartfelt stories, and Filipino creativity of a Tokyo-based Pinoy artist whose works has travelled the world.

Now returning to where it all began, the three-day exhibition featured a curated selection of Sunโ€™s paintings, including fan favorites, reimagined classics, and new works inspired by his life in Japan.

Visitors got the rare chance to meet the artist, hear the stories behind his art, and connect through shared memories and experiences through the Artist Talk and Closing Reception earlier today, December 14 which was a highlight of the exhibit.

Dennis personally talked about his creative journey, inspirations, and the meaning behind selected works. Guests, which include Dennisโ€™s friends and classmates, made the intimate gathering and homecoming exhibit more meaningful where they experienced art, nostalgia, and home โ€” all in one place.

Dennis is a cm laude graduate of the University of the Philippines-Diliman where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree majoring in Visual Communications. Upon graduation, he taught Humanities and Art Appreciation to college students at the Angeles University Foundation (AUF). A year later, he moved to Tokyo and worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for a decade before becoming a freelancer.

Some of his clients include The Japan Times, Japan Airlines, ANA (All Nippon Airways), Tokyo Disneyland, Toshiba, Toyota, Honda, NHK Television, Walt Disney Animation, among others.

In addition to being a graphic designer and illustrator, he is also an artist, creating sculptures, etchings, computer graphics, ceramics, murals and comic strips. He also worked with the Asahi Weekly Shimbun where he wrote a column, Strangers Surviving, which talks about how foreigners survive in Japan. His column also led to the creation of a colorful comic strip that delighted his readers.

Dennis also founded Jeepney Press with his sister, a non-commercial publication for Filipinos in Japan. He is the editor-in-chief and creative director.

He has won several design, art, literary and academic awards in the US and Japan and his works have been exhibited around Japan, the US and Asia through which he hopes to spread much love and joy around the world as possible with his works.

Dennis has done solo art exhibits at the Onda Gallery in the USA, UNESCO, Jakarta, Indonesia, the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, World Trade in Yokohama, the ASEAN Center Tokyo, the Nagoya International Center, the Tokyo American Club, the Philippine National Bank, among others.

He also contributes his talents to charity events where he designs logos, brochures and even lends his emceeing skills to these charitable events.

In 2002, the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo nominated Dennis for the Presidential Heritage Award for his outstanding performance in his field of work in Japan. In 2010, he received the prestigious SM Global Pinoy Award for Filipinos excelling in their profession in the global arena.

His most notable achievement in the mass media was the Most Outstanding Kapampangan Award in 2013.

Dennis said this exhibit is a prelude to a bigger one which will be held at the Clark Museum in February. So we can expect more from Dennis Sun in the future.

Barangay Bulaon bested nine other entries and emerged the champion in the Giant Lantern Festival 2025 held at the Robinsons Starmills on December 13, 2025.

Led by Punong Barangay Lavernie Gopez, lantern maker Mark Niรฑo Flores integrated revolutionary rotator designs and used innovative LED panels to produce more vibrant colors, resulting in a showcase that set a new standard in giant lantern artistry and engineering.

Joining Bulaon in the roster of winners are: First Runner-up Sto. Niรฑo with Punong Barangay Janino Padilla and lantern maker Byron Bondoc; Second Runner-up Dolores with Punong Barangay Allan Patio and lantern maker Teddy Aguilar; and, Third Runner-up Calulut with Punong Barangay Jaime Capil and lantern maker Syakina Leigh Bondoc.

Participating barangays in the Giant Lantern Featival, known locally as the Ligligan Parul, include Bulaon, Calulut, Del Pilar, Del Rosario, Dolores, San Jose, San Juan, San Nicolas, Sta. Lucia, and Sto. Niรฑo, all of whom exhibited skill and creativity in the provinceโ€™s iconic lantern-making tradition.

Meanwhile, the display of giant lanterns does not end with competition and awarding night.

The City of San Fernando Tourism Office said the giant lanterns will be on exhibit every night from December 14 to January 1, 2026 across multiple venues in Pampanga and Angeles City.

From Robinsonโ€™s Starmills Pampanga, the lanterns will be put on display at the Capital Town, Marquee Mall, City Town Center in Barangay Calulut, and areas near the City Hall and Metropolitan Cathedral.

With a thinner crowd, organizers said this is the best time for visitors to see and appreciate the giant lanterns as visitors can stand closer, take clearer photos, and scrutinize the details of the lanterns without rushing.

Some lantern makers may even be around where visitors can discuss the creation process of the lanterns.

And the best part, admission is free.

โ€œMaraming salamat po sa karangalang ibinigay ninyo sa akin na maampon bilang honoree. Being Kapampangan stands for many things: it stands for resilience, it stands for compassion, it stands for hard work, and it stands for being industrious. Sisikapin ko po na araw-araw ay taglayin ko ang mga virtues na iyon upang hindi po kayo mapahiya,โ€ he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Pineda, Vice-Governor Pineda, and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan members extended their heartfelt congratulations to all awardees, who now join the illustrious roster of honorees recognized over the 47-year tradition of the MOKA.
