NEWS: San Vicente Pharmacy pilots PhilHealth GAMOT program in Antique
SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- A community pharmacy in the town of Anini-y, Antique has successfully piloted the PhilHealth Guaranteed Access Medication to Outpatient Treatment (GAMOT) program, marking a significant step toward improving access to essential medicines for outpatients in rural areas.
San Vicente Pharmacy served as the pilot site for the program, dispensing prescribed outpatient medicines based on a valid PhilHealth YAKAP physician’s prescription.
In a launching program held recently in Anini-y, PhilHealth Antique Officer In-Charge Virginia Pagnamitan lauded the initiative and the commitment of Roy Falco, who is also the owner of YAKAP accredited facility, for his commitment to deliver health services to the people in the community.
During the program launch, PhilHealth information officer Cherish Ly Ariola said that the transaction was completed smoothly and without delay, demonstrating the program’s operational readiness at the community level.
The GAMOT program is a PhilHealth initiative that seeks to ensure consistent and affordable access to medicines for outpatient care, particularly in geographically isolated and underserved communities.
Ariola noted that the pilot implementation in San Vicente showed how local pharmacies can effectively support government efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery.
Jose Roy Palco, owner of San Vicente Pharmacy, expressed optimism over the program’s initial roll-out, noting that GAMOT helps ensure patients receive the medicines they need at the right time, which is crucial for recovery and continuity of care.
Health stakeholders and members of the PhilHealth YAKAP network welcomed the successful pilot, citing its potential to improve treatment compliance and overall health outcomes.
Following the positive results, PhilHealth is expected to explore expanding the program to more pharmacies in the province.
