Part 2 of Handstand Journey by ๐คธโโ๏ธ
This session was more than just learning how to balance or safely bail out of a handstand โ it was about understanding our fears and how our natural protective instincts work (which is a good thing!).
Coach Justin reminded us that the goal isnโt to be "fearless" to the point of recklessness, nor to be so afraid that we stop ourselves from trying. Itโs about finding that balance in that spectrum โ acknowledging fear, but learning to move with it, supported by awareness and knowledge.
One of my personal reflections was how many women, especially girls, may have missed out on the kind of rough-and-tumble play that helps build reflexes and physical instincts. All of us needs that! Growing up, we were often told to stay โprim and proper.โ Todayโs practice felt freeing โ light, playful, and full of rediscovery. For a moment, I felt like a child again, moving intuitively and without the heavy thoughts of fear or judgment.
The rollover drills were my favorite! My injured elbow held up beautifully and glad it didn't bail on me, too. ๐
Relearning how to trust our reflexes is such an intuitive and empowering practice. Today, we got to experience that again โ even just for a short while.
Big thanks to Coach Justin for his insights, energy, and for guiding us through such valuable drills. ๐โจ
Thanks Lulu for travelling all the way from Makati, to Anna for showing up even if we are fearful about it, for Rain for capturing us and sharing your presence!
